this is probably my favourite movie, not because of fancy camera work or great acting, but because this is literally every kid's awesome turned movie:

GIANT ROBOTS VS GIANT MONSTERS

This might be autistic as fuck, but a ship doesn't have the structural strength to be held like that right?
>>
>>1181543
Even if it did, there is no way it would be strong enough to hit something with more than once.
But I think it's cool.
>>
>>1181399
Goddammit Cherno was so cool.

They shouldn't be making a sequel to this, they should be making a prequel so we can see the Jaegers in their prime. I wanna see that big blue MK1 Jaeger with gatling guns in its chest.
>>
>>1181728
>>1181543

Unless they started making Tankers seriously durable since, you know, there's fucking Kaiju out there now. But yeah, the thing should split in half the moment it was lifted from the sea. Or where ever Gypsy found it.
>>
>>1182392

Preaching to the choir here. If this had been made 10 years earlier it probably would have gotten it's own Cartoon show.
Godzilla and MiB both got theirs, hell, Toxic Avenger and fucking Robocop got cartoons.
>>
>>1182437
I'm pretty sure it would've if it'd done better in the US.

Mind you, 10 years ago the technology for the effects and cinematography didn't exist, and del Toro wouldn't have the star power to make a flick that was basically every weeb's private fantasies all smushed together.
>>
>>1182439

Yeah, but 10 years ago they'd probably have just allowed him to go ahead and do Mountains of Madness like he wanted in the first place.
>>
>>1182441
Your point?
>>
>>1182443

No point. Well, other than I really would have liked to have seen Del Toro do any of Lovecrafts stuff, let alone what I consider to be HP's best work.
>>
>>1182445
Never actually read it, I'm afraid. Wouldn't know.

One of those things I always meant to get round to but never did.

But, to move things back on track, I'd like to see more of (as well as the old Jaegers, MK1s especially), I want to see more of the old Kajiu. Like the crab one that chases little Mako.
>>
well, there's definitely a new movie slated to release in 2018, and I doubt they could make a sequel, wiping out the enemy race and all. so it's probably going to be a prequel? hopefully with more Idris Elba? the world needs more Idris Elba
>>
>>1182448
>>1182473
In a interview with Collider in November 2014, Guillermo del Toro talked about setting the stage for Pacific Rim 2 (2017) in stating: "It's a few years after the first one. It's not an immediate follow-up. It is the world having been freed of Kaiju, what happens to the world after - what happens to the Jaeger technology once the Kaiju are not a threat. It's quite a jump."
ULTIMATE BATTLEBOTS?
>>
>>1182474
Apparently they've got whatisname, the guy who played Finn in star wars, as the lead. Supposed to be Elba's character's son or something.

Even though I thought Mako was supposed to be his adopted daughter, but whatever.
>>
>>1182477
ooh so they got star war's token black guy? sounds great.... lets add more characters instead of developing preexisting ones!

I always thought it was odd that Australia had its own giant robot but Japan, Mexico, and Indonesia didn't.
>>
>>1182413
>there's fucking Kaiju out there now

Imagine the impact that would have had on global trade. Shipping costs from Beijing to LA would have gone through the roof. Hell, I bet all the Pacific countries would see their GDPs cut in half.

Mexico had Matador Fury.
Indonesia is shit out of luck.

I'm sure Indoesia had one, but we didn't hear about it. Canada had one, and even the UK did.
>>
>>1184256
I can't remember what scene exactly, but it's implied that all the countries along the Pacific Rim were completely screwed economically, that's why there are so few robots left and why 3 of them are from countries that have other coastlines (USA-Atlantic, Russia-Baltic/Atlantic, Australia-Indian).

I'd love to see a World War Z-type book looking at the "realistic" consequences of the kaiju (giant robots aside, of course). Like I bet that the EU, Brazil, and India are all far more important in the Pacific Rim universe. China and Japan probably aren't even global powers anymore, given how all of their people, factories, and resources are so close to that portal in the ocean. The USA is probably significantly weaker too, since everyone living in California probably moved east.

actually I think the world would probably go the way "Edge of Tomorrow" did, with countries with pacific coastlines surrendering to military superpowers for protection, and Japan being the bat-shit insane country they are, start building mechs and everyone else following their initiative. Cause, let's be honest, who else would have the instinct of: OH SHIT, WE'RE BEING INVADED BY GIANT MONSTERS, LETS BUILD SUPER MECHAS TO FIGHT THEM

plus the naming sense clearly points to all of it being Japanese inspired
>>
>>1185204
That looks like Vile's mech from X
>>
>>1187512
It's probably a Japan/Germany collab, considering the names.
>>
>>1185152
Wrong movie, anon.
>>
>>1184765
Yeah, Godzilla 2014 had pretty amazing sound direction, the new kaijus actually sound very alien which I found really cool.
>>
Pacific Rim 2 is confirmed right?

Cuz this moobie was fucking 10/10
>>
>>1187512
>>1187545
I think it's more likely that the Japanese were the first to start building them (maybe they were targeted more at first), and their fetish for all things American and German led to the silly robot names
>>
>>1187512
>actually I think the world would probably go the way "Edge of Tomorrow" did, with countries with pacific coastlines surrendering to military superpowers for protection

The countries with pacific coastlines are the military superpowers, though.

-USA
-China
-Russia (honestly can't imagine why they'd care, eastern Russia is basically empty anyway)
-Japan
-Technically Britain and France (they have some islands)

Religion would be really interesting in that universe, especially Christianity. The Book of Revelations describes a monster that "rises up out of the sea", so I bet you would see a massive increase in the number of people who follow Christianity, church attendance, mass suicides, etc. .
>>

>dasvidaniya motherfucker
Kex.
>>
>>1187548
>>1184765

Fun fact: the producers made that sound by rubbing a rubber boot against a drum (slowed down).

Godzilla's original roar from 54' was made in a similar way.
>>
>>1187792
Wasn't there supposed to be a cult that worshipped the Kaiju?
>>
>>1187788
lol I was thinking of places closer to the pacific rim (kek)
Malaysia, Argentina, Phillipines n other things
>>
>>1188004
THERE WAS. and they were worshipping a skull iirc.

HONESTLY, HOLY SHIT, what if the second movie is an internal war, in where the cult gets their hands on a decommissioned jaeger, and they begin to wreak havoc on the planet?
>>
>>1187572
>>1187572
honestly, the movie could've made diddly dick and Guillermo del Toro would've given zero shits and still made a second movie. I mean, it's Guillermo "I brought Hellboy to the silver screen without fucking it up" del Toro

honestly, I hope this spans as a Trilogy
>>
>>1188079
That makes no sense at all, a single jaeger would be be even less dangerous than single kaiju.
>>
>>1188460
after all of them were wiped out and only having one in-action jaeger? a jaeger is still a giant mech, especially if they get the Tacit Ronin, his speed over strength specialization will be a pretty big terror weapon

you also have to remember that most of the world is still recovering from the kaiju invasions. just having an active army makes you pretty damn intimidating in a post-war, or in this case, post-apocalypse civilization
>>
>>1187572
>>1188087
Pacific Rim 2 is confirmed.
Confirmed to be in preproduction limbo that is.

Yes... but Del Toro was kicked off the project
>>
>>1188502
You're seriously overestimating the extent of the damage done in the movie. The Kaiju never got past the pacific coastlines, and nobody sent conventional military forces after them once the jaeger program started. The world's armed forces are all intact, albeit maybe a bit smaller because they had to divert funding to build giant robots. A single jaeger wouldn't last very long before getting brought down by somebody's military.
