Recent purchases thread? Pic related, the results of my trip to the used book store yesterday.

I've been looking for a copy of Arkanoid Doh it Again for nearly 15 years. I'm stoked to have finally snagged one.
>>
I just bought my first retro console (NES). A friend of mine was selling it and I couldn't resist.

I don't have any games or even tv yet and I don't know where I should buy them (I live in central Finland) or where I even fit it in my small student apartment.

I'm stressed but happy.
>>
>>3338760
Didn't your friend have games too?
>>
>>3338760

Finnpoor here mongolbrethren, its HIGHLY unlikely you do to find any cheap retrogames from flee markets or anywhere nowadays, theres shitton of resellers who scavenge them through and charge ridicilous prices, but i recommend modding the console for ntsc and using ebay for much cheaper prices than within finland

Few absolute must havs for the NES

Responded to an ad for a Coleco Gemini plus driving and keyboard controllers and 35 games for $60. Guy was apparently moving soon so he also gave me the Gameboy, and PS2 games (THATS NOT RETRO) in the pic (from his ad.) I thought the "RFT-DAM" in the center was some kind of RF switch box, turns out it's a cable descrambler.
>>
>>3339141
I'm saying that sellers who put games in those tend to be the ones to know their (ebay) value. I'm assuming it's the seller who put the games in there, anyway.
>>
>>3339138
pre-merger Enix is always good.

>>3339398
Agreed. I was surprised at the price I got it for, since I had always assumed an obscure SNES JRPG like Paladin's Quest would have ballooned to absurd prices these past several years.

Arkanoid is my favorite ball & paddle franchise, and Doh it Again is my favorite entry of the series. It has the right balance of difficulty but wacky powerups to tip the scales in your favor.
>>
>>3341818
Thanks, anon. I was pleasantly surprised to see that it is one of the GB games that get a bit of a boost from the Super Gameboy. Enhanced sounds, etc.
>>
Did I do gud or dun goof?
>>
>>3344726
Depends. How much did you pay?

Also damn, there's a game that was hot shit back in the day that zero people talk about anymore. I guess that's the over nature of fytin' games.

The arcade version is on midway treasures 2 for the sixth gen consoles, it plays a hell of a lot better than any of the earlier ports.
>>
>>3345887
>>3346396
Only paid ten bucks. I heard the SNES port was one of the worse versions as it doesn't have as much violence, sounds are bitcrunched, and there's no battle intro animations. I bought the game mostly for lore anyway.

It was hot shit because it was like Mortal Kombat but with dinosaurs.

It was a pretty mediocre game otherwise.
>>
Not exactly purchased, but I was given a model 2 Genesis with no cords or controllers and a scph-9001 PS1 with only the power cord about a week ago.
>>
I bought a NES on a whim the other day, I found out that it's American when I got home. Good thing any 9v AC power supply works with it. Now I can play games in full screen and full colour once I do the region unlock mod, so it ended up better than buying a PAL console.
>>
Not my pic, but I just got in my HDretrovision cables for SNES and Genesis.

I was previously running my SNES via s-video, so the jump in quality is barely noticeable, at best.

However, those Genesis cables....holy shit! I'm using them with my JVC X'Eye and 27" Trinitron and the difference in picture quality is night and day. Well composite -> to component so no shit, right?

I might sell my SNES cables cause fools are buying them for $100 on Ebay, lol.

by the way I hope people see this as a stupid joke and not as shitposting. i don't want to damage the quality of this board
>>
>>3347427
>Barely better then s-video
The SNES was meant to run in component (RGB was on another chip, it was removed in the final build) as before they they decided to cheap out the SNES was meant to do Hi-Muse 1080i (through a special video port that later became the stander Nintendo AV port, RCA audio, composite & s-video were on stander jacks like the US NES with it's AV ports).

Keep the cables and use a modded SNES mini, you will thank me later.
>>3347654
It is not garbage.
>>
>>3348143
>i don't want to damage the quality of this board
Don't worry. That ship sailed long ago.
>>
I bought an XRGB Mini. It's just about the only reasonable solution I've got for hooking a lot of my consoles into a projector.

I've already modded my NES for RGB, so it, my SNES, my Saturn, my Playstation and my Dreamcast will be using RGB for now while my N64 is stuck with S-Video until I get around to modding it as well.

I got everything in this picture for $30.00 total, as well as Metal Gear Solid for $10.00.

And that's just the retro shit. I got a bunch of newer stuff for $5 each including:

>Baten Kaitos
>Metroid Prime 1&2
>Ni no Kuni
>Nier

And many more.

If you want cheap games boyos, then subscribe to local rural stop and shop sites. I promise you will have a good time.

sure, because no one's allowed to have CIB games without being dissed here. That's why most threads here are repetitive and stupid: people like you flood this board with stupidity towards anything they don't approve.

>>3340274
What's the issue with CIB games on /vr/? Every time I see a CIB game the poster gets dogged on by everybody. Why?

Because you're effectively doubling (or more) the cost of your purchase just for a piece of cardboard.

Backer versions sent out in early June. Their online store had a limited quantity for wide release on June 3rd. Sold out in about 10 minutes.

The SNES cable and the Genesis 2 cable with the Gen 1 adapter ran me $101 including shipping. So worth the money. The cables brought new life to my X'Eye.

Keeps your eyes peeled; they're going on sale again in late August.

I used to love buying games at half price books, but it seems in the last three or four years they've gotten reeeeeally bad about pricing. I took pic related the other day at the same half price where I bought a copy of bubble bobble part 2 on NES for 2 dollars back in 2009 or so.

Oh, I feel your pain. Luckily, the HPB near my job had been fairly pricing a lot of uncommon PlayStation games and what not.

The copy of D&D Collection that I snagged was originally $75, but I had a 40% off coupon. This Sunday is a 50% off, but I'm going to hit another location.

Hell yeah. I found a CIB copy of Conker on the N64 for $4.98 at HPB. Probably one of my best scores from them, aside from a PC-FX and some PC Engine games.

What's the fucking point of collecting a game if you don't have the complete version? Might as well play a rom or something if the cart is the only thing that matters.
>>
>>3366151
Because some of us just want to play games on original hardware and not pay double or triple just to have something that in no way affects the way the game plays
>>
>>3366151
I like physically cleaning the old consoles, controllers and games, and playing on a pleb consumer CRT. It's also fun watching my kids run their fingers across the titles before choosing a cart and gingerly putting it in the NES/Genesis and cranking it up. It's just more fun for me playing with the old hardware.
