It is a gameplay element still in progress.
There is a new gameplay element called Bond.
The bond with a certain pokemon will grow if it do nice battle with the trainer. And when the bond gauge is at max, the pokemon can do a mini-mega evolution.
There can be only one bond evolution per match and it boost the stats of the pokemon with 50 in some stats. You can decide the stats of the evolution via a special menu. You can customise this all you want. (1/2)

Littens final can take some big its and can respond with bigger ones.
Popplios final i a grear mix between speed, special attack and both defense.
They are all great, I think
But if you talk about a big boom like Greninja, I think that Littens final evolution will be used a lot for its great typing.

It saddens me to no end that this thread is probably all bullshit, because this concept right here is incredible. It would totally shake up the meta to be able to have a free 50 floating points that you can use to customize your favorite Pokemon in battle. Not as crazy as a proper Mega that can lower other stats to min-max truly terrible 'mons, but there's so much opportunity for interesting shit with a mechanic like that.
