What would happen if I replaced the batteries in my copies of Sapphire and Emerald? Would the time cycle just go on as if nothing had happened, allowing events to come and go and letting me grow berries, or do I need to fuck around with a couple of things as well via a hacking device?

iirc it just plays the same, but you lose your save

Weren't RGBY and GSC the ones whose save files depended on the internal batteries?

This is what would happen, but the clock cycle may be out of sync with reality. It may or may not prompt you to reset the clock, and if it does, it'll only do it once.
Also you may need to fix the berry glitch to get berry growth working properly, but practically everything in gen 3 past RS has the patch to this, so just trade with Colossseum/GoD, apply the patch from FRLG/Emerald, or scan an e-card from an e-reader/Pokemon Channel/Pokemon Box RS.

No Gen 3 game requires the internal battery to save. You will never lose your save from replacing the battery in RSE. If it says it will then your cart is a fake.
Replacing the battery in RBYGSC will delete your file.
Replacing the battery in RSEFRLG will just resume the time-based events without deleting your file.

thank you

Maybe I should check the clock in the player's room to see what time it stopped at and do the battery replacement around then so that it's not badly out of sync.

this fake ruby cart i had was constantly corrupting itself and the time was pretty fucked too
Do they have the same batteries as in the pokewalkers?
>>26714300
I think the Pokewalker batteries are CR2032 while the Gen I to III carts' batteries are CR1616.

Damn, got some pokewalker batteries lying about. Would have been nice if I could use them
>>26714484
They're really similar, aren't they? Kind of wish they were as interchangable with CR1616s as they are with CR2025s.
