After completing the initial menu tutorial and picking a partner pokemon, pick Online Battle from the main menu / world map.
VS codes are basically passwords. Set the preferences to Anyone > Use Vs Code > vgptg

In terms of personality and character? Probably Machamp or Gengar.

Tier wise, probably Mewtwo, S. Mewtwo, or Sceptile.

When do skill points start to matter?
I've added like 15 skill points to each stat with no noticeable difference.

Putting 100 points into attack give you a huge, game-breaking 10% damage boost.

Either dump 99 into one, or split it 50/50

we dont know how exactly but Machamp received the most number of nerfs second only to gengar

I'm guessing wired is the way to go with this and I've heard different things between the official pokken controller or a hori pad.

>He bounces off the wall

>Stunlock into instant death
Ha ha epic loving this balanced character.
>>
>>26063704
Seriously. I'm starting to learn Shadow Mewtwo and I was taken down to 1/8th health going from max after missing a grab and taking Machamp's standard XX in duel phase. Sure it was a crit but goddamn, I lost shortly thereafter.

>>26063792
They decided that Suicune wasn't good enough with the best projectile spam, counter attack, and with ice wall. They made it king of the beam spammers by giving it an attack that counters all projectile's (save for Chandelure and Mewtwo's lasers) and hist back for 4th health. Thus forcing all characters to approach. What the fuck were they thinking?

And is anybody playing right now? I'm about to hope on.
>>
>>26063859
>save for Chandelure and Mewtwo's lasers

A couple of Garde's are counter pierce, so those too.

Also I think Mewtwo's Psycho Cutter doesn't count as a projectile either, but I'd have to test that.

I wish there was a record option or something in training mode to make the CPU use more than just that specific normal attack.

why the fuck do you even need to ragequit in friendlies
>>

Everyone in random friendlies is apparently E5 and doesn't know how to counter attack or grab.
>>
>>26063859
How do I get good with Suicune, I feel like I become doomed the second anyone gets in my face.
>>
>>26064174
Spam Counter attack. You can cancel it and just charge another one right after. Additionally, it has a follow up attack which is angled upward. I also believe that you can go straight into the upward angled one. Suicune also has a really damaging combo close range combo, learn it.
>>
>>26064174
Mix up your counter followup with grabs.
>>
>>26063959
Don't play your main on Friendlies then.
Shitters get but hurt if you perfect them so play someone you're trying to learn.
>>
>>26064260
This. Friendliest are only there to test out secondaries and git gud with new guys.

To that end, I can't fucking decide who to pick up next. Gengar is my favorite but we just don't click, and I'm bored of stomping my friends with Weavile.

Machamp is a blast but I feel like he doesn't have as much depth as others. Sceptile is cool too but he has the exact opposite problem, he's complex as fuck.
Help, /ptg/! Who do I pick up?????
>>
>>26064347
Blaziken or Lucario.
>>
>>26064347
Machamp has grab mixups on block and mid combo as well as an arial grab. I'd say give him a try.

Got the game recently and maining my favorite Pokemon, pic related. I've almost gotten Gardevoir to 75, so I'm trying to figure out who I should sub, but every Pokemon feels so radically different, what do?

Also, what's a good support set to use? I've been using Reshiram/Cresselia, but it feels sub optimal.
>>
>>26064477
I only ever see 3 support sets online.

Reshiram/Cresselia almost every time, a bit less since the damage nerf.
Espeon/Umbreon at second.
Then Victini and whoever.

Personally, I really like Espeon/Umbreon.
>>
>>26064477
They are really different.
If you wan't a better version of Gardevior to fall back on if you feel like you're lossing than learn Suicune. If you want the polar opposite of Gardevoir then go for Blaziken. It's frail like Gardevior but in your face and fast.
And it depends on what you want done with your subs. Do you need spacing, health, meter?
>>
>>26064520
Alright, so keep the Reshiram/Cresselia, and the Dragonite/Victini sets. I'm a bit confused about the Espeon/Umbreon set though... Is it really that good?

>>26064536
What I generally go for in a sub is something that counters my main's biggest counter. Like Faust was my main in Guilty Gear back when I played, and I subbed Chipp against anyone that could make Faust look like a joke.

I guess that I'll try Blaziken for the same Zoner main/Gotta Go Fast sub idea.
>>
>>26064612
Espeon is a decent heal and removes debuffs, charges fast. Not that great on Garde since you don't have any self debuffs or self damage though.

Umbreon is totally invincible, drains synergy, seals crits. It's a great option when cornered. Maybe not that great on Garde since it doesn't fling them away like Reshiram does.
>>
>>26064708
I guess it would be good if I started subbing Blaziken though, especially Espeon. Thanks.
>>
>>26064536
>Suicune is a better version of Gardevoir

Can this meme die please? Just because they are both zoners doesn't mean they are the same.

>>26064612
Emolga/Fennekin is the best support for Gardevoir, especially Fennekin. Fennekin give you invincibility and save your ass when people corner you.
>>
>>26064945
Thanks for the tip. And I guess the Emolga would be helpful for Blaziken too. I'll try stuff out when I get home.
>>
So how would you guys rank the roster? Personally I have everything in three tiers according to my online experience:

>God fucking help me
Chandelure
Mewtwo
Pikachu
Shadow Mewtwo

>Well rounded
Blaziken
Garchomp
Lucario
Pikachu Libre
Sceptile
Weavile

>Ranking is suffering
Braixen
Charizard
Gengar
Machamp
Suicune
>>
>>26064945
I don't mean that they are the same.
I mean that Suicune has more health, an even better counter attack, and counters other beam spammers.
>>
>>26065147
They both has their own advantages.
>>
>>26065166
Yes with Suicune's affording it a position on top of the tier list.

>>26065129
You're playing the game wrong if you think this at all accurately represents how good the characters are. I'll stick with three tiers.

God Tier
Suicune
Chandelure
Gardevior

Great Tier
Machamp
Gengar
Braixen
Weavile
Blaziken (requires skill use)

Good Tier
Mewtwo
Sceptile (requires skill to use)
Pikachu Libre
Garchomp
Pikachu
Charizard
Shadow Mewtwo
Lucario

My list may be flawed or biased but it is much more accurate than yours, I assure you.
>>
>>26065254
>>26065129
Both of those tier lists are fucking awful.
>>
>>26065283
Post yours then
>>
>>26063493
Well both are pretty bad now
>>
>>26065304

Top:
Mewtwo
Suicune
Pikachu

High:
Weavile
SM2
Sceptile
Garchomp
Chandelure
Gengar
Lucario
Libre
Braixen

Mid:
Zard
Gardevoir
Machamp
Blaziken

Hopefully I didn't forget anyone.
>>
>>26065356
Machamp may have a bad matchup with zoners but it's grab game is ridiculous. Have you fought any good Machamps? Its damage output is insane!

And why do you feel Gengar is lack luster? It has arguably the best Burst Mode in the game as well as lots of close and distanced trickery.
>>
>>26065380
I made the second list.
I'm a B4 shitter but I'm glad we can agree that Suicune is high top tier. What, in your exhalted <B4 opinion, compels you to put Mewtwo on top and Pikachu so high?
>>
>>26065407
A5.

Mewtwo has all the tools he needs to beat most of the cast, from aerial options to ground options, spacing and rushdown, crazy field phase he has everything. He's got very few bad matchups.

Pikachu has also a great amount of tools and as long as the player isn't retarded and gets good read, he can get burst twice per round. His damage per combo isn't as high as others but he can get the gtfo burst twice a round for free, his just frame 6Y is plus on block and overall his zoning is really good for a character that can rushdown really well too.

I judge from both current console plays and recent japan arcade plays, by the way.
>>
>>26065468
Fair enough. I main Mewtwo and I don't play as often as I like. I guess I just gotta get good. Any tips for playing against Suicune? Its easily my biggest hurdle.
>>
>>26065389
You can blow up Machamp pretty easy by jump attacking if you know he isn't going to counter.

Gengar has nothing going for him outside of burst since he does no damage and has no health.
>>
>>26065538
Suicune's greatest tool is his counter attack, it's all about you reading those counters, grabbing or piercing (hyperbeam/charged counters hard reads) them.

You gotta respect his zoning and stuff his approaches. And you have to make him respect your pressure.
>>
>>26062696
>>26061352
Figuring out how to add you now

>>26065129
I think the game is balanced enough lookiiing at everything to not have many tiers, but the matchup differences are huge. For example, as a weavile, I have zero issues wth chandelures and can trash even upper c/b rank ones wiith 70+ winrates; i've probably only lost to a single one periiod.

On the other hand, a decent libre, garchomp, or charizard is pure terror against me
>>
>>26065614
Its hard to put pressure on a Suicune. And I feel like it devolves into a 50/50 game with trying to grab its counter and counter its attacks.
>>
This is pokemon tekken right?
For some reason Braixen reminds me more of Xianghua from Soul Calibur.
>>
>C3 Rank Up match
>opponent is E1
>actually E1

Well. I almost lost because I didn't just stand still and just charge counter all day, thinking they might actually grab or something.

But no, they were actually E1 and played like it.
>>
>>26066449
She does share at least two moves with her, although one might actually be Raphael's.

She's not the only one, Shadow Mewtwo has one of Algol's moves too. Not sure if he counts since Yoshimitsu is a legacy character in both games, but Sceptile has one of his strings.
>>

I can tell you right now that if you break a hypnosis loop once, they'll never do it again because it's not worth it. Afterwards we'll either just get the normal grab for the easy meter and health, or cancel into curse to punish you for pushing buttons
>>
>>26070017
you were doing fine, the sceptile games showed as much though I can't say if it was because it felt like I was playing scep like I usually play chomp, which is an awful idea
chomp does best when he's breathing down your neck, if you can find a way to keep a bit of distance and punish him for bad moves it should help i think
>>
Guess everybodies gone
>>
>>26070077
I played against you when you were playing as sceptile? Ithought it was just the one garchomp match you bodied me in. Man, maybe not going to bed last night is affecting my head more then I thought

>other stuff
Well, I'm generally pretty good against sceptiles and generally suck shit against garchomps anyways, so i'm not really surprised at either result. The thing is the main tool weavile has for mainting distance is icicle crash into nosedive and repeat, and a singly well timed x will complete screw that over, as can dig.
>>
>>26070077
>you can find a way to keep a bit of distance
Important thing you forgot to tell them. Make sure you block if you see Garchomp reel back even a little bit, otherwise you're gonna get hit from midscreen and take lodsadamage
>>
>>26070124
>Make sure you block if you see Garchomp reel back even a little bit, otherwise you're gonna get hit from midscreen and take lodsadamage

if you mean his standing x, the issue as a weavile player is you can't block in the air and it comes out so fast that if you are going for an iciicle crash, garchomp can just hit x and beat it out, deal damage, and knock me into a corner and maybe even start a combo
>>
>>26070118
I went off after getting bodied so hard I got a nosebleed. Might be on tomorrow maybe.
>>
>>26070164
unless my memory fails me the icicle itself has it hitbox even when stationary, so as long as it's not too low you should be able to block the X with it
it has enough startup to be blocked on react, but what most chomps usually do when they use the 5X is that they stay at a set distance where they can stay safe from your attacks and throw out a charge when there's an opening. it's a good idea to keep a finger on the shield button when chomps are a little uncharacteristically far away

It was just one Splatfest.
>>
>>26072676
But it wasn't.
The general was pushed off the end of the board at least ten times due to lack of posters during dead hours.

>>
Machamp is the best
>>
>>26073109
the best at having no options yeah.
>>
>>26073133

Maybe if you're new (no offense)

Machamp is 100% skill required.
If you want easy, you can just play the fifteen other characters.
>>
>>26073201
Why would you purposefully want to set yourself back?
>>
I'm on my shitty phone, I recently beat iron league but I'm getting destroyed online, I assume there are general get gud video tips in this thread? What about Blaziken protips?
>>
>>26073212

Machamp is just an advanced character, not an easy starter character. That doesn't make him/her inferior. Machamp just requires commitment. Much like natty bodybuilding, there are no substitutes for hard work and dedication.

With great power comes great responsibility.
>>
>>26073274
Just because it's not easy doesn't automatically mean it's advanced.
>>
>>26073220
Just learn some of those Blaziken combos that do like 50%.
>>
Anyone have that image about which bursts attacks are invincible?
>>
>>26073882
Nope
Just remember that Machamps and gardivores only ones without any
>>
>>26073882
I don't, but I'd like to see it.
>>
>>26073892
Gardevoir's does have some invul. I'm not sure why people keep saying this.
>>
>>26073201
But that implies that Sceptile and Gengar don't require skill when they do.
>>
>>26073220
Have you learned how to CADC? If not, learn that. Learn which of your moves break counter attacks and use them whenever you think someone is going to wake-up with a counter after knock down. Learn which assist is best for you, a Blaziken player I play with sometimes uses Whimsicott to help him get in against zoners.

Also, learn which moves you have that are safe on block. I'm not 100% sure, but I think Blaziken's divekick is safe on block and starts a combo on hit, which is pretty scary.

Why is it that sometimes when I attack and opponent grabs me, instead of them taking critical damage, they just get off scot free with frame advantage?
>>
>>26075601
If they frame trap your getup with a grab and you buffer an attack, they'll cancel each other with you at disadvantage.
>>
>>26075601
There's probably certain frames where the critical hit is supposed to occur. If the active frames of the attack don't come out during the critical hit registration, it trades and resets to neutral.

8X never gets beat out.

>>

You pick a character you like. Either because you like their playstyle or because you like the character.

Personally, I either hate or don't care about all of the roster except one character, so my choice was easy.

I rarely played 8-way run fighters like Pokken, so it's much harder to find a play style I like, as opposed to 2d fighters like any Street fighter where I know who and what I like to play

Look inward. Every lose you get or even every time you get hit, ask why did that happen and what you could've done to prevent it.

Look for tendencies of characters.
>>
>>26076420

Well then, my main play style would be ground rushdown type of play style, ID anyone played third strike or sf4, Dudley would be my go-to example

Are you me? Which character did you pick?

considering evo. where are these pokken championships
>>
>>26077209
I'm certain the majority of the top will be Suicune, Chandelure, Mewtwo, and maybe a Sceptile or Libre.
>>
>>26077386
I think weavile's got a good shot.

Weaviile is actually a pretty versatile character and is really good at laming it out if he needss to against pretty much the whole cast other then sucuine or braixen, and he's incredibly good against chandelure.

>>

>>26078472
Sceptile's midrange grab does the equivalent of kittens in terms of damage. You only have to look for it when he's in burst mode.

Chandelure's grab on the other hand is retarded.
>>
>>26078960
I agree that Chandelure's grab is dumb, but Sceptile has guaranteed setups into his and that's just as bad.
>>
>>26078522
You can also change the distance of Sceptile's grab.

>>
>>26079121
It's an ugly onion.

Only an ogre could love it.
>>
>>26079117
and you can do more damage with chandelure's, which is arguably more beneficial
>>
>>26078971
If you get caught by the setup it's just like getting caught or punished by any other character's combo/setup. It only seems really bad because it's a grab but it doesn't even break duel phase. It's just a tool in part of their combos and is why it does so little. It's like 20-30 damage and scales if they hit you with it late in duel phase.

Saying it's just as bad as what Chandelure is of a gross overstatement. You're comparing a string of combos to one button press which can do around 80 or 200 damage for free if you got hit by a status debuff which Chandelure has on almost every other move.

That's not counting overheat either which is another one button blow up and that's at close range. The negative debuffs also mean jack when you can use a support to remove them.
>>
>>26079212
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hOvc2itOM_A
>>
>>26079265
Again I'm not seeing it.

You're comparing multiple inputs to one input.
>>
>>26078472
>>26078960
>>26078971
>>26079212
As a weavile player, sceptile is way worse to deal with. With chandelure, I can jump into icicle crash or the divekick to avoid the grab and land whereever I want without iissue, and oftetimes the icicle wiill crit since he tried to grab and I can also often diivekick into hiim and deal a 33% damage combo.

With sceptile, he also has a dozen traps I have to be careful to not be standing over which limits my options and distracts me from worryiing about the grab, and he has more health, and his attacks come out faster
>>
Hello guys, I've just got this game a few days ago and I've been wondering, first, as the only fighting game I've ever played is smash, is this game easy to pick up? and second, One of the main reason I picked up this game is because my favorite two favorite pokemon (Charizard and Sceptile) are playable, Are they good? and if they both are, which one would you guys recommend I try?
>>
>>26079433
>is this game easy to pick up?

Quite. Uses directional inputs not unlike Smash.

Sceptile is often considered top tier. More complex than most of the cast.

Charizard has high damage, but can be a bit predictable and slow.
>>
>>26079511
I still cant come to agreement that sceptile is top tier
His damage output just seems so average and can be zoned out easily
>>
>>26079511
Well, what about blaziken? is he good?
>>
>>26079326
I was never talking about one input. I don't know about anyone else, but I was talking exclusively about those.
