That was during the menu glory days in the first few months on PC, first joined a private lobby of some se7enforums guy, then got random drops here and there and finally did it myself twice on a private lobby. Never got too crazy with the amounts, at most I'd get 10m. I suspect there's some truth to that Rockstar lets it slide if you buy shark card meme, as I had the bonus money from pre-ordering that must count as shark card on their end. I also grinded a lot, so maybe they thought it was legit.
The only "safe" way now is transferring, they cracked down on menus hardcore. Which, again, is a shame because you had customization options not available in the game for no reason and iFruit is severely gimped for "ilegal" modding these days.
