You can banish it at anytime it's sent to the grave for activation and can be used multiple times but it's grave effect only works on a clear field but can be activated at anytime.

lets keep in mind that pikaia isnt exactly like trade-in.
if you trade-in vanilla blue-eyes, you really dont lose any important effects, and can easily revive it with other cards that you would be running multiple of, like gospel or silver's cry.
if you use pikaia you specifically need to discard a burg, where it loses its incredibly valuable effect, and then either you had a burg in the grave before activating pikaia, or use another one after it to revive one of the 2 sent.
obviously, there are matchups that i wouldnt mind having triple pikaia, because certain burgs would end up being dead, like canadia VS something like shaddolls or prediction princess's, or hallucigenia VS something like BA, where they'll just float anyway, or literally any deck that runs honest.
in a perfect situation, i would discard marrella with pikaia, and if i draw into another marrella, id just send the generally unfavoured burg, depending on the matchup.

Running 3 Pikaia and 1 Marrella is better than 2 of each. You have 16 Burgers, and 2 Xyz able to search those burgers. Marrella will, as you know, act like a Foolish Burial for your Trap cards. This has a distinct advantage over Pikaia for setting up the graveyard as it doesn't require a discard, but that assumes you only draw 1 Burger in your opening hand. Probability suggests 2 out of 5 cards in your opening hand, at least, will be Burgesstoma traps. Now, on your first turn, Marella is functionally identical to Pikaia given you don't have anything to summon from the graveyard. And past the first turn, Marrella is pretty slow and not very useful. It stands to reason that you'd run 3 Pikaia instead of 2 Marrella to maximize your chances of drawing your strongest, fastest card in an already pretty slow archetype, yes? All the more given that it's searchable with an Xyz that is pitifully easy to get out, and 2 will see you run out of them faster than 3, but you of course could figure that one out.

99% of the time im sending the other marrella with marrella, and if i draw it late game with 1 already in the grave, i either send a relatively dead burg or i just discard it for a pikaia or dino.
because i run dino and lean at 3, im most likely to get them, and they are the 2 most live burgs (in regards to the frog build) for either discarding quillbolt, plaguespreader, ronin or dupe for dino, and adding swap/dupe back into the grave with lean, from summoning treatoad using ronin.
pikaia is only the best when you have fodder for it, if i start the duel off with only pikaia and no other burgs, its dead, and setting it is risky as it could get blind MST'd. if i start with pikaia and another burg, i have to be certain the other burg wont be useful immediately, and if its olenoides, im sure as hell not getting rid of that.
this deck is primarily a rank 2 turbo, with most of the rank 2 spam coming from the frogs, and those being backed up by the burgs, in a sword and shield-esque manor.
the 2 burg xyzs arent usually a priority, considering treatoad exists, and in a extremely rare situation, i might consider making opabinia without using any burgs, so i can turn any burgs in hand into quickplays, where they are the most deadly.
on a final note, pikaia generally isnt my first search with opabinia anyway, usually its olenoides, lean or dino, as if im making opabinia, its not the first turn of the game and im making a push.
