I don't come here too often but I'm curious about something. I want to pick up skyrim again so I've been looking and getting some mods, and the only thing I can't seem to settle on is a house-mod. I've looked at the modding guide but it's section on player homes is kind of lacking in the description of what some of the homes can actually do, and I don't want to go through touring each one and uninstalling if I don't enjoy it, so I was wondering if somebody here who's tried a lot of house mods could help me find the one I'm looking for.
Basically the gist of what I'd like in my dream house mod would be one that allows me to show off my collection of loot as it grows (priest masks, artifacts, etc), but not a house that feels too 'grand' (castles, giant mansions, etc). So essentially something with the storage and treasure-showing capabilities of those big mansion mods but with more of a smaller, comfier feel. Bonus points if it's upgradeable/has to be earned via quest or something, but that's really not needed.

I remember reading a while ago about a museum mod that does that, you store all your quest loot and shit on pedestals and the curator gets more dialogue and shit as you fill it up, I never actually used it of course, just heard about it. I totally agree with you; in fact I'd love to use Immersive College of Winterhold JUST for the fucking black soul gem altar in the midden, but it's just too much of a disaster trying to keep your game stable while running that mod, and luckily Dawnguard added the Soul Cairn so I can just go touch lightning rods when I need Black Soul Gems. I think there is one that just overhauls the visuals slightly called College of Winterhold HD or something like that. The only other ones I know of are the one that makes the floors a godawful checkerboard pattern that made me want to rip my eyes out, and Winterhold Improved which just spruces up the Archmage quarters and adds a cafeteria floor.
There is a funny one that turns the teachers into snobs who will demand expensive tuition fees to teach your magic.

I'm in a similar situation regarding hardware. I have an idea of an old ass redguard who fought in the great war. Naturally he hates the Thalmor and the Empire for "betraying" Hammerfell during the war. He couldn't quite let go of the fighting, so after the war he went on to become a pirate and raided mainly altmer ships ever since. When the Thalmor stepped up against pirates his ship was sunk and decided to leave Hammerfell for a while. He heard of the civil war in Skyrim and felt it is similar to what happened between Hammerfell and the Empire, so traveled there.

I have the Sky HD 2k textures with the optimized beth HD textures filling in anything not covered, along with a few armor texture improvements here and there. I don't understand why larger vanilla locations have no impact, but a tiny hovel added by tes arena frontier kills it. The only advice I've found is to disable AA and AF, but that's done nothing.

Focus on picking up items in dungeons worth 5 or more gold per unit weight. Bump that to 10 as your accumulate more money. Smithing/enchanting together are great once you get the soul trap spell. So is making fortify health potions with alchemy.

Make sure it's the only thing in overwrite, then right click on overwrite in the left pane and select 'Create mod'. Name it whatever. Then the log will be in that folder instead of overwrite.

Well, it needn't be top performance. Something like 40 fps +/-10 with a well-optimised ENB would do too.

This is what I do in Photoshop:
