Ha ha, joke's on you, I had "girlfriends".
Two girls in college told me they liked me, one even asked me if I wanted to come to her house since her parents weren't here.
I told her my house was closer and that I failed to see why I should go to her house. She never spoke to me again after that and kept calling me an idiot.

>>147908605
This is actually a commonly used tactic, though mostly against city states. Pretty much no one builds a worker but steals from city states anyway, so after stealing it you don't immediately peace out and continue stealing/upgrading your units against them. Usually works perfect. If used against other civs cripples them really hard

Continuing

The Mex Fed has started to colonize seriously the 4th galactic arm now. We have explored much of the galaxy and encountered most civiliztions by now. The biggest ones right now are the Han People's Republic, the Heaven's mandate, the Yayoi Empire and us. We are also the third most numerous species, behind yayois and chinese.

Nigeria keeps insulting us and the visegradians and they have made a pact with the hindus so war seems inevitable now.

If you open ship design you must be able to see wich Gas your ships use as fuel.
It's either caslon, hidrogen or... the other one.
You need it in large quantities, make sure to build several more gas mining stations or secure trade agreements with someone who has it.

>>
>>147910106
Ha, okay. Can't private ships get it? Some of them are gas miners.

It's my only hope without restarting a new game because I'm 100% out of fuel here.
>>
>>147910140

Private ships can get it but maybe you need more. The market can correct itself given enough time but you may want to push things a little. Manually search for more caslon or whatever and send your construction ships to build stations.
>>
>>147910243
It's going to take a while, but hopefully I'll be able to correct the situation.

>Hitler was elected

Yeah, as chancellor. Then he used entirely non-democratic means to elect himself God-Emperor for life and throw the constitution out the window after Hindenburg died.

Plus he deliberately crippled the parliament's ability to act on the very issues he was using to rally support by causing constant elections via walk-out whilst using propaganda to spin it as the government being unwilling to solve said issues due to corruption, so that it would boost his vote % each time.

He perpetrated the very inefficient government he claimed to be against, just to seize personal power.

Hardly a beacon of democracy.

In Stellaris, is there any reason to use cruisers mixed in with battleships late game instead of only battleships? Fleetpower-wise they are equivalent, but battleships die harder, regenerate more health (since regeneration in a percentage per month) and stack more armor. Any reason to mix in corvettes with destroyers in your fleet instead of using only destroyers for screening bigger ships? I'm thinking of using a fleet composition of 4 destroyers ber battleship, plus two battleships per aura type (offensive and defensive).

No, that would be broken. They would become complete powerhouses in late game.

Or maybe, only make them able to reincarnate if they die from old age.

Well there's already a way to get level 5 hirable leaders without taking up more than 2 trait points. At least the reincarnator trait could be balanced to cost 4 or 5 points.

In fact plutocratic oligarchy and megacorp may be stronger throughout the game than any military government. Between the energy boost, and the super cheap mining stations. They can ramp early and maintain late.

The ship upgrade cost isn't a bad bonus on its own, but compared to plutocratic oligarchy it just doesn't compete early. And late game you aren't upgrading nearly as much and mineral income isn't as crucial as early game.

Military dictatorship has some decent bonuses, and military republic is pretty good for hyperlane only games. They ended up fixing military junta a bit, it just doesn't compete even between the other two military governments.

This is a problem us humans are running into actually. Our lives are getting longer, but "useful" years (aka years spent not bedridden and capable of coherent thought) have stayed more or less the same since the dawn of time. For most humans, the useful years end at roughly 70.

It very well may be the case that these spacefaring civilization realized this too, and simply chose to let their elders die than waste resources needlessly elongating lives. Even better if they have the cloning tech and can simply transfer consciousness over bodies like Tleilaxu.

Boudicca, since Im pretty good with it.

Initially I thought I would get scrubbed away because they have been playing since a while, but they didnt even knew about stealing workers from city states and that kind of stuff.
So after a horrible start due to a shitty location full with desert and ice (thanks map generator) outside of my forest city I managed to pull ahead quite a bit.

Im expecting an all out-warfare against me in the end game but we are playing on a 10 player map with 5 AIs. I dont really feel like going for domination since that would take quite long when everybody allies against me.

lmao, it looks like you can win it.

Which policies you went for? I guess you could go for cultural victory because it is really easy with Boudicca if you went piety, but I don't know would cultural work in MP

Also don't only think about improving your civ, also think about how to make things worse for other civs. For example the reason why Dandolo is so bad in MP is because even if people don't go for domination, they still DoW Dandolo and raid his caravans, making him completely useless. Depending on other guys' civs you can do the same I guess

Also desert tiles get shitload of oil in the late game, don't underestimate them
>>
>>147928882
I went for tradition and patronage (since I discovered a shit ton of city states near me and we have super aggressive barbarians and Im getting loads of quests through this).

My intention was to keep whatever victory condition open for the time until I read university (which I just finished when we saved the game last night) and then decide what Im going for.

The good or bad thing (depending on your view) is that Im on some lonely island, thats connected to a continent full of AIs. All the human players are on a different continent I havent found yet so raiding them will be a bit difficult but they also cant easily raid me.

Also all AIs are per default my allies since it doesnt seem like my collegues know how to into Civ 5 AI. None of them has ever paid an AI to declare war and that kind of stuff.

Theres 1 guy how knows some stuff, though. Hes playing Shoeshones and before I joined the game he had been the one raping the group all day because of a godly early religion. But I messed that up for him by stealing the best perks together with AI Haile, so I dont know how he will keep performing now that his main strategy is dead.

One of the most important thing about being in contact with other civs is technology. For a technology, for every civ you met that knows the technology, its research point drops for you. Also trading with other civs(by caravans) will give you(and them, depending on techs) science points. But it looks like you're not completely alone, the AI civs should be enough for you for now.,

Tradition was a bad choice if you ask me, Boudicca is more suited for wide. Though I had games where I went wide even with tradition because how OP that tree is, perhaps you've done the same

Pocatello doesn't really need a religion to be strong, his amazing scout unit gives him a great start and thanks to Civ V's snowballing system he usually does well, even when he's AI.

Also check for victory conditions to see who's going for what victory and who's getting which wonders. Because you haven't met them you won't see this of course but keep it in mind. Also try to be first to ideologies for that sweet free 2 policies. You already know which techs to prioritize, how to manage your GPs, how to manage your tiles(that growth/production "exploit"), etc right?
>>
Why didn't Paradox give us a land unit designer for Stellaris? I want to give my theocratic birds some bitchin' power armor and gamma ray rifles.
>>
So is it possible to win in Stellaris peacefully?

Just got rekt by a military alien because he's building closer and closer to my border and then he attacks me. His main army has 3k attack while my defense army only had 1.5k, only had 1 ally with a 1k ship but he bailed when the 3k ships attacked my capital.

Also how to or tips on making alliances?
I traded my special resources with 4 other alien races but only managed to get 1 to ally with me. (they all had around +120 points).
>>
>>147930764
Yeah I have already played quite a few SP games and read stuff, so I think Im fine with the basic things. Though I actually didnt know meeting other civs reduces technology point costs, thanks.

I also feel like Tradition was not a good choice in hindsight. I was scared of early warmongering and getting raped by the other humans since I already heard them talking about doing this often, so I decided to stay small, but thats now kind of biting me in the ass.
>>

Look for aliens with the same traits than you.
Of course, you're fucked if you're militaristic, two of them won't ally.

So, I maintain fleets of screening destroyers and battleships in a 4:1 ratio. Should I use armor, plating or shields and which type on which class? My main enemy that has the capacity to match me seems to use mixed designs with neutron, devastator torpedoes, one lance and some plasmas on its battleships.
>>
>>147932016
In Civ food/growth is calculated at the end of your turn whereas production is calculated at the start of your turn.

So you set your citizen focus to production focus, which means it will automatically put people on production tiles. But you don't let it automate, you lock citizens to food tiles yourself. This means, when a new citizen is born he'll immediately put on a production tile and because production tiles are worked at the start of the turn, he'll give you production as soon as he's born. But after that you assign him to a food tile, and in the same turn he gives you food too, Basically everytime a citizen is born you get twice of effect of a citizen

Not something gamebreaking but definitely puts you above other civs

crystal plating on destroyers and neutronium armor on battleships.Armor has the most value on BS because their base armor is already pretty high, with the right strategic resources and upgrades you can get 70% Armor on a BS easily. extra HP for destroyers for soaking more incoming damage.
Dont even bother with shields, especially if your opponent uses devastator torpedos.

>>

Two things :
Stellaris is made by Paradox, who's famous for making good games, but after a lot of debugging and 5 DLCs.
Stellaris just came out.

Think about it.
>>
>>147941218
Stellaris is barebones (to say the least) at the moment but it's incredibely accessible and fun up to the midgame. Lategame it becomes a bit of a chore, but what 4x doesn't?
>>
A bit off-topic, but has any of you managed to get immerged in a 4X?
I just had a discussion about immersion with a friend, and he told me it's impossible to get sucked in a strategy game, that you're always a spectator, unlike in RPGs or FPS.
>>
>>147941969
>4X

yes

The question is how much sandboxing it has versus actual gaming. Civ 5 for example creates little immersion for me while Stellaris goes in the right direction.

I won't turn this into personal blog mode, but the DLC model pisses me off so much.

Civ suffered from it, Paradox does, just... I miss the era of buying expansions in the box from the store with a worthy vanilla game off the bat. I wonder how everything can get off the internet, and I am aware of the irony saying that on a Hunnic culture victory imageboard.

>>
>>147947675
Depends on faction and victory type
Broken lords and roving clans typically go wide for massive amounts of trade routes
Wild walkers you can do whatever the fuck you want
Vaulters need to be tall to use endless recycling
Cultists and Allayi are pretty much forced to be tall
Necrophages can be both because of cellulose mutation
Good luck with forgotten lul

>>147940880

Zoroastrianism was not depraved, you're thinking of Nahuatl or that Egyptian snake God.

I think Paradox expects you to assume the sacrifices or sibling sex is going on, since it never explicitly mentions who your leader is married to or the details of their worship.
>>
>>147950401
Isn't Zoroastrianism the one where you have a sacred family that mustn't mix their blood?

I dunno, it annoys me a bit that religion is always so underwhelming in Paradox games.
People go to war more easily because of religion rather than because of politic.
>>
>>147950773
A casus belli is not necessarily the actual reason people to go war. You can say it is a Holy War, but there are always other more substantial reasons.
>>
>>147951869
I don't necessarily means war. I was thinking of cults that can convert variousspecies and fuck your shit even more, or strange state religion.

I'm trying to get into Civ 4 because I'm hoping the late game is not dreadful and awful like it is in 5.

>>
So a friendly empire in stellaris which I only had a non-aggression treaty with somehow dragged me into this war with another species. >My favorite civ 5 moment was when I had a single Japanese spearman hold a pass against a horde of enemy spearmen and warriors.
That is a Total War-scale thing, not a Civilization-scale thing. ONE army, composed entirely of spearmen who took up an entire mountain pass, held off entire armies composed entirely of spearmen and warriors respectively for decades? Really?

Paradox games had the right idea. If you don't have Total War battles, then it comes down to mashing stacks with attrition and terrain bonuses. Civ IV's doomstacks still made sense, a spearman could hold a hills-forest-river mountain pass against like six or seven attacking spearmen for a good turn, not for 20.
