So I have a hacked 3DS with CFW already set up. I found a program that can move saves from the 3DS onto an SD card so I can then edit it on a computer. Works like a charm for 3DS games, but it won't find DS save files.

It's required for 64GB and bigger cards (those come as ExFAT). It's recommended for cards of any size. If your shit's already set up properly with a9lh, use just run EmuNAND9 from your old card, press select to swap cards and use it to format your new card without EmuNAND. Then copy files across on your PC and you'll keep all your shit.

Yes, you need to go back to part 1 after a format not mentioned in the guide (other than unpacking the starter kit on your SD card). Once the guide is done, a9lh is permanent and you can format all you want though.
