Yes, it's damage is still the same, you just can't fire as many times. You used to be able to fire 4 times if you Blood bullet'd each time, now without runes you can only shoot twice. But it still does obscene damage.

Just nearing the end of my first playthrough. This is probably a stupid question, but after you defeat Gehrmann/Moon Presence, do you have to continue to NG+ or can you choose to keep your hunter in the current world? I want to finish the game, but I really have no desire to play NG+ with my current build (it's pretty sloppy). I'd rather keep my character around with all the active lamps for co-op.

So, I'm fairly new into the game. Beat the first Hunter boss once I figured out how to use the gun, and I'm on my way to the second. Really fucking liking the little differences between this and the Souls games.
Quick question regarding the threaded cane. It's what I picked because I heard it has great crowd control in one form, a fast and simple moveset in the other, and it scales like a motherfucker when you dump points in skill. So far this seems to have been pretty accurate, and I'm really enjoying fighting with it.
Why am I also seeing people saying it's horrible with a slow attack speed and no damage? Are they just bad? The weapon just feels like it's extremely polarizing one way or another.

First thing you need to realize is that terms 'dream' and 'nightmare' aren't literal. Everything you do and see is all real and happening. The Hunter's Dream and the Nightmare (Frontier, Mensis, etc.) are various areas within an expansive alien dimension inhabited by alien creatures. The Nightmare is one large place presided over by various Great Ones.
Furthermore, they're references to some of the more obscure stories by H.P. Lovecraft, stories which take place in a fantastic realm called the 'Dreamlands' which humans access via sleep, but other creatures access differently.
Basically, when Gehrman executes you, he's cutting you off from being tethered by this alien dimension. You will no longer wake up in the Hunter's Dream upon death, your part in this whole sordid affair is over. Eileen the Crow, that old lady hunter you meet, she used to be trapped there, but isn't now. Chances are Gehrman freed her, too.

Is Bloodtinge all that viable? The weapon selections seems quite limited, unless it's like Arcane and you can stick gems on there to change the damage to blood.

28/50 str/blt for gatling gun + bloodletter
others do
25/50 skl/blt for chikage so that they can still make some use of the untransformed mode and have some melee damage with bowblade
some do like 14/15/50 str/skl/blt and use both bloodletter and chikage
my favorite by far has been 15/50/15 skl/blt/arc with just chikage, bowblade and hunter tools
I spent like 15 hours farming all perfect offshapes for it because I liked it so much
