To be honest I always drop Rhys. He doesn't work well in RD and Mist is just... superior. She gains a horse on promotion, can fight with the wind sword in the last chapter. Even if she starts so fucking low I'd rather have a mounted healer.
Also you can adjust the ai of the allied units like Lethe and Mordecai, if you didn't know it already.
