Sister Lamia in part 3 was like that, two different 1-hit kills, each requiring a different defense summon. How often she used them dictated whether or not your SP got wrecked before you could win.
IIRC Dominion Endiel also had some sequence of RNG to her where if she did certain things in a certain order, you'd pretty much auto-lose.

All they do is one physical party attack, it can be evaded. The only reward is 15 job exp and their encyclopedia entries.
Now, the story fight in the Forest of Spirits.
No rewards, it uses a variety of strong moves, but there IS an achievement.
If you win, you skip the dialogue sequence where the Edgelord tells you who it was though. But really, you'd be VERY hard pressed to win on a first playthru.

Paradox part 1 is 3x as large as all 3 parts of the original VN, combined. It took Rogue about 2 years of burning himself out to the point of quitting doing translations at all to translate the VN.
So the hold up is that Paradox part 1 ALONE would take Rogue upwards of 15-20 years to fully translate.
And I expect parts 2 and 3 to be bigger.
And I'd like a translation eventually, but don't want to burn people into quitting either.

There are 66588 lines of text to be translated for free.
Assuming a modest 5 words per sentence that is 332940 words to be translated.
For reference the Hobbit is 95356 words long and the Lord of the Rings trilogy combined is 481103 words long.
Grab any old book off your shelf and retype the whole thing into a word document, then consider they are basically doing that on a larger book in a different language into a format that really doesn't support easy implementations.

I'm always a bit of a white knight for the translators due to how many people keep asking for progress and act really spoiled about it, because the last thing the translators need is the people they're basically doing this for to be as hostile as some people get over it.
I started with machine patch in part 2 of the VN because I was way too impatient when it came out to ever wait for a translation. And the only point I really didn't catch was that the human Alice scene was rape... dammit TT, I thought it was consensual! But I understood everything else.

Yeah I purposely lowballed it so people couldn't go "but reused H-scenes and easily machine replaced text like 'Luka opened the Chest'" since there are a decent number of loss scenes and castle scenes reused with only ~10 lines being different and currently untranslated on average.
I realize it saves them time in the long run, but I bet the time investment just to get the patcher working was a pain in the ass as well.
I remember that the problem with translating PSP games isn't that no one wants to translate them, it's that the disc decryption to get access to dialog and interface files and then re-encrypting it for playback is a nightmare for the majority of PSP games and well beyond the skill scope of most translators. I'm still surprised we got Valkyria Chronicles 3 translated after no real interest for many years.
RPG maker has more tools to support it but it's still a pain in the ass to manually change lines in map files and resource classes I'm certain. Dargoth hopefully has found someone that made something that allows them to just update a .txt file and import it to the game.

Using the Idolmaster PSP games as an example, the dialog files were a specific size (say 878 byes for this sentence) so they had to make a modified .iso to accommodate the additional characters english brings compared to kanji. On top of that there was no real word wrap so they had to make a program that would display what the line looked like in game so they didn't have to patch the .iso and hunt down the line in game with heavy RNG on what the memory events are every time they wanted to see if a translation would fit in the text.
The Toradora translation probably had similar issues but they were not quiet as transparent as the idolmaster so I can't really speak much about that and the VC3 translation was done so fast I didn't even know someone had picked it up until 6 months after it released.
