just listen to what people say when they give you tips, ignore the dickheads and don't be a dickhead yourself. If you want to just get the feel for what competitive matches are like join some lobbies and play engie, pyro or scout or you could just jump right into soldier or demo but you can expect to lose most games. But if you don't give a fuck then don't let that turn you off because you're not going to get better at a class by not playing it I'm just saying soldier and demo are pretty important so if you don't want to instantly dive right into it then try and get the feel of comp with a less important class.

i legit dont know what to do against a soldiers that aren't braindead, even as scout
rockets have such a big splash radius that if you get anywhere near him, get anywhere near ground or a anywhere near a wall the only thing you can do is take the rocket
no i don't think i'm "good" but the RL just kidna sems bullshit when you compare it to any RL from another AFPS where the spash radius is usually way smaller, and if it isnt you'll do pitiful damage at the edge of the splash radius (see: Q3/QL rockets)
but in tf2 if you just barely get nicked by the rocket then you'll still take 40-60 dmg at close to medium range
and if you get hit by one good direct or something he can just shoot literally anywhere around you because of the splash damage + knockback
