There are hints that the Conjunction was actually caused by humans themselves and there are speculations that this was a work of technology, not magic, as humans only learned about magic after they came to this world.
So, yeah, something like a Type I Kardashev Scale civilization, really fucking things up for themselves, hastily evacuating their planet through very, VERY destructive teleport, technologically regressing back into Iron Age, but this time with added benefit of magic aaaaand not so much of a benefit of infesting their new world with all kinds of alien monsters. ....

I have a question about the combat system. Under the enemy Health bar there seems to be a stamina bar of some sort, but nothing really happens if I push it to zero, what's it for?
Also, it's a bit annoying that a lot of monsters can attack right trough your combo, without even flinching. Specially since mid swing you can only dodge or roll cancel (I prefer roll because dodge is kinda shitty to hit on my keyboard) and not into parry. Not that it matters anyway because every time I tried to parry something non human Geralt got stunned for his trouble.

That's toxicity, you get higher toxicity when you consume potions, you have to create White Honey to get rid of it.
Normally it doesn't do much, but if it's higher than 75%, your life will start getting lower.

You can't parry monsters, just dodge the attacks.
Parrying is only for people who attack you with swords and such.
Dodge is kinda more useful than rolling because it dodges the attack and doesn't leave you like 20 feet from the enemy, so you can start attacking him right away.

Don't worry, there's lots of Witcher gear, and the upgraded original one might be useful for a couple of levels more, but you can find more witcher gear that can be upgraded much more and will be useful for the entire game and DLCs.
For those you have to buy maps in blacksmiths and armorers, which will start treasure hunts for diagrams to craft those armors.
Don't worry for now and just get to learn the game mechanics step by step.

It's weird. I can't really get the hang of dodging. If I see the enemy is about to swing, I roll in his direction and then left click, which dodges his attack and brings me right back to attacking him

Dodging is godly against enemies with 2 handed weapons. Attack, dodge back, repeat until they're dead. They'll never block you and they'll never hit you.
It's also great against groups of fast but weak enemies like wolves and Nekkers, just swing, dodge left/right, swing again. Dodge quick enough and you can take on packs of 10 or more without a scratch.

Do the main Gwent quests. Once you beat 1 person they'll send you to the next. Playing random people won't get you far, you'll get new cards but they'll probably be on the shittier side, or for a deck you don't even use.
Don't feel that bad if you think you're shit. Gwent is pretty RNG and deck-based for the earlier and mid parts of the game until you get decent cards.
Keep your deck around 22 of your best cards, don't go all out shoving every random card in your deck.
If your draw and redraw fuck you over and you don't get any decoys or spies, or anything that good then just forfeit and try again, if your hand is that bad. Especially if you know your opponent is going to be a massive asshole with tons of medics, spies and scorch cards.
