Why the fuck would Square hide plot-important scenes like this? You literally have to go ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE BOTTOM OF BEVELLE, a second time, for pretty much no good reason. There's no indication that there's anything down there either.

First I tried to used their very low evasion to land safe fire veils and then damage magic since the strongest one doesn't counter those. It sort of worked, probably would but I fucked up in the end and their elementalist wrecked me.
Then I took an archer, used study prey and hasted her while the bangaa cast grace and the paladin used defense.
Apparently all those bonus stack, even if defense goes away by the next turn it pretty much meant invulnerability and then the lingering protect and grace were enough to keep her alive through the counters.
It's probably safer to just debuff them from afar though, since the other guys can fuck you up if they get close..

He's still a samurai able to use both knight and spellblade abilities and who has a soul break that does damage while giving Major Regen. He's a damn good melee fighter, although one that could be replaced depending on the soul breaks you get. He's still got a huge selection of very handy abilities that usually have to be spread along multiple characters, though - Look at the FF6 characters, to get the spread of abilities you get on Gilgamesh you'd have to take Cyan and Edgar.

Gilgamesh is a very very good jack of all trades, and he's incredibly useful in the "early game". Once people start amassing honed 5* abilities and more powerful SBs though his utility becomes a lot less useful.
With a SB weapon gilgamesh is still plenty useful, but he's not going to be taking a spot from someone that can do what he does plus has a SB.
For me gilg used to be in my party all the time. Now I only really use him in IX events/dungeons where my only good synergy weapons are fists that my usual team can't equip.

Gilgamesh isn't bad for the reasons given by the posters but I found that even with his SSB he's an easily replaceable unit given adequate SBs and weapons on other chars.
I have his SSB and AoE dmg + hi regen doesn't cut it anymore for U+ level bosses. I'd rather take the (imo) objectively weaker skill set of Beatrix because Magic Blink and high single target dmg is way better than what Gil can offer.

Sidequests only increase your stats and give you money. The more important stuff like stuff that deals with your schemeta (garbs, weapons, spells) is all acquired through chests/battle/shops. So when it comes to sidequests just focus on the stuff you can complete and if your stuck on one go focus on another (the game tells you as much early on).

that's more a testament to how strong the abilities tend to be though. Their regular abilities are the same effects you'd otherwise need SBs for. The idea is you can get bards that also have a good SB and they just bring tons of shit to the table.
When they get their 5* and 6* skill they get a little bit more useful though.

I know you probably have all the core dungeons finished, but try to remember there are a fucking ton of them and a series could pop in for one, maybe two dungeons and then vanish for like 30 dungeons.
Hell, I'm barely halfway through the core dungeons myself, but that's a mix of me working on dailies, events, and elites more than the base core and I feel like I've done a billion of the fucking things.

To be honest when I started playing the Remaster I didn't run around and talk to moogle-costumed yuna on the docks right at the start, you know, where its actively out of the way, you gained control 20 seconds ago, and there is an endless stream of enemies running onto the screen that force a fight when they bump into you before you ever got access to Dress Spheres, healing, shops, or really anything of the game, since it started 20 seconds ago.
No idea why I didn't feel like carefully exploring everything under those circumstances.
But from then on I was like "Fuck it, 75% ending will be good enough".

Not once have I legitimately seen someone explain why the 13 series is good, what about it could be considered good, in a way where I went "okay, maybe not me, but I could see how people could find this good". Every single time I could only be appaled at how anyone could actually think it was good. So if this is your gaming, if this is your future, I might just have to get out, because these ideas that 13 was good have become literally impossible for me to empathize with or rationalize in any way.

I can't recall Noel's as well, but that fight felt more like a huge damage sponge that had SOME dangers.
But Serah's was BEAST, almost died several times.
I personally don't care about Eclair, XIII was a horrible game. period, XIII-2 fixed a lot of things and was actually pretty good, in LR they ried t fix stuff that wasn't broken, and, in my honest opinion, made me feel like if I was playing Lords of Shadows 2 meets Dirge of Cerberus: Doll Dressing edition... and up today I'm not totally sure if I like it or not.
