It really depends on the game, but sticks are usually better for arcade games than anything else, because you can do much better rapid movement changes with them. Try for example doing a wiggle motion on a pad and then on a stick.

Isn't all stick praise just people patting each other on the back for having bought into the arcade culture? Hence the Japanese scores used as the main argument.
>>
>>145972195
funnily enough most people seem to agree that stick sucks for touhou, but maybe those people that praise the stick believe the game should adjust to their shitty input
>>
>>145972554
Touhou isn't even an arcade game. It doesn't matter if stick works best for it or not.
>>
>>145972838
I thought we're talking about shmups here?
>>
The thing that gives stick the edge to me is the button tapping. Much more pleasant on a stick.
>>
>>145973168
Shmups don't exist outside of the arcade according to the same people, so that's a neat cop-out.
>>
>>145973168
Yes, but Touhou is a very bad example for a shmup, since most shmups are arcade games.
>>
>>145913350
>keep telling yourself that
So arcade cabs give you an option do they? Thats right they don't so from day 1 arcade players had to use and adapt to sticks and therefore are accustomed to them massively by now therefore it is circumstantial you cum bubble blower.
>>
>>145973927
wow, you were spot on, see >>145974636
>>
>>145974721
Sticks are objectively superior for arcade games. I said already, but the main reason they are better is the controll you have with them when doing rapid direction changes.
>>
>>145963049
I will buy Grandia 2 if it's dirt cheap.

Or I'll just pirate it. Sometimes I forget that the main advantage of PC gaming is ez piracy.
>>
>>145974886
Are you retarded? The developer of Touhou most likely doesn't even play with stick, so it's no wonder that keyboard or whatever works better for it. Most shmups are developed with stick players in mind though.
>>
>>145975115
so you are telling me people like the guy that made pink sweets design their patterns so that stick is particularily well suited for them? They just do whatever they want
>>
>>145975294
I'm telling you that ZUN or however this guy is called is not an arcade game developer, so it's not a big surprise people don't play the games with stick.
>>
>>145974967
>but the main reason they are better is the controll you have with them when doing rapid direction changes.
I only noticed that they enable a more fluid playstyle. Feels quite at home in an arcade shmup, but if anything stick is restrictive compared to keyboard.
>>
>>145974721
they use whatever is best (an arcade stick) even when they have an option to use anything
>>
>>145976175
>stick is restrictive compared to keyboard
LMAO, keyboard is complete crap compared to stick.
It's complete shit for circle movements and it's shit fast direction changes. Try for example pressing very fast left-right-left-right-left-right repeadely on a keyboard... On a stick this works much better, while on a keyboard you easily can press left or right twice or whatever. And movements like these ones are important in a shit ton of games, except you only play shmups on a babbie level.
>>
>>145976606
this is bait, right?
>>
>>145976719
No, it's just common sense. On a keyboard you don't just have to have good timing for the directions you press, you also have to have the right timing to press two directions at once.

When I want to press diagonal on a stick, I just have to press diagonal, but on a keyboard you have to press two directions at once at the same time. This gives much more more room for execution erros. If you can't see this, then you must be literally retarded.
>>
>>145977034
>literally
okay it is
>>
>>145977157
Kraut just isn't the best man to represent stick users in an argument.
>>
>>145977034
Well, on stick you have to find the diagonal correctly! And how the fuck do you judge where the corner is when you aren't riding the gate?! it's unreliable. HAHA BURN

That's just being apathetic, then. Or they're putting out the image that they don't care about the game that much, maybe because they hate the fact that their life and goals are centered around it.
>>
>>145994996
No, that's just Jaimers.

More or less also everyone else with a multitude of mid-high scores across many games achieved each in a short time, and difficult survival clears where applicable, with nearly nothing much better.

After becoming redpilled on scoring and going all the way, one starts to see such attitudes with a certain kind of disbelief, as those players appear to be wasting their talent, and possibly being lazy and non-commited, carried only by their natural ability instead of serious dedication.

Of course, games are meant to be fun, so it is rightfully no one's business as to how everyone is having his enjoyment with shmups. But for being a role model, Gus seems to be the winner here.
>>
>>145994996
In another sense, players with strong natural ability but also possessing dedication. If you're average, you cannot match their level in a similar amount of time, and the amount of effort required to catch up seems unreal, even just on building fundamental skills like accuracy, so as a result you don't feel like they could be a role model for you either, because you cannot learn from their approach. There's nothing to learn, they just somehow got good without noticing it at all and ascended to another, incomprehensible plane of gameplay.
>>
Gus really is a role model for the average gaymer because he has no talent at all. He is proof that anyone can get a high score if you play one game for eternity.

You aren't red pilled on anything you fucking sad act, just another empty loser hugging the elitist gamer attitude to hide the fact you have nothing else and as an excuse to see others as lesser for not being autistic tards hell bent on scoring one game for years.

Probably not the only one, but I really don't like saying things that would reveal who I am on 4chan. I like to stay anonymous, and that sort of conflicts with talking about shmups. It's gotten to the point where I will not mention my favorite couple games in the same post, only separately. It's often quite easy to tell who someone is just by them saying that they are going for scoring in a certain game because the community/number of players is so small, and it's spread out over many games and categories.

Anyone else feel the same way? Is this autism?

What's the best way/program to record shmups
>>
I need to learn to record my fucking plays, because I got this but lost the run immediately afterwards, and now I have nothing to watch back for practicing.
>>
>>146030074
I use Dxtory to record videos. Most people seem to use Fraps or Bandicam.

>>146030718
Just use the built in replay function of MAME if you want something to look back on a run.
>>
>>145887385
Any of you guys played Super Galaxy Squadron EX?
>>
>>146030718
You can always use .inp files if you're on MAME. Makes sure you reset your nvram everytime though.
>>
>>146032092
i did, i didnt really like it much, refunded.

Space moth DX felt a bit better but something about the games that use that game maker shmup engine never seem to really click with me
>>
>>146032268
>Make sure you reset your nvram everytime though.
I've never done this, are you supposed to?
>>
>>146033849
Well the eeprom file usually stores seed for rng so replaying an .inp file with the wrong eeprom could make your playback lose sync.
I don't know if it's necessary for every game though.
Personally, I have a batch file set up to make a backup of the eeprom every time I start it up and I keep my .inp with individual folders with the right eeprom. But I play Tetris so this is kinda necessary if I want more varied piece sequences.
In shmups, it's a lot simpler to just reset it.

>>

Hmm, no, I don't see where you're coming from at all. The red pill is exactly that, it is the realization that one must give his very BEST to a game instead of fucking around with it. It is contained in Gus's essay, and can be seen in really everyone with a truly high score.

So I just assume you missed my last paragraph. Convenient, but doesn't serve you well.
