Finally turning summerfag tomorrow and am considering whether I want to celebrate by emulating Mole Mania or Metroid Zero Mission, or just say fuck it and keep playing the Dragon Quest VII remake like I've been doing these past three years.

Anyone else got a games lineup planned for their vacation?

Yes, CRT Royale is meant exclusively fort 4k. Downsampling is placebo and just fucks up the integer scaling. CRT-Geon, Lottes and Hyllian are all better for sub-4k. Lottes has the best bloom and shadowmask out of all of them.

Using PCSX2 (1.4.0) and GDSX4.1, which of these options puts less strain on the CPU and more on the GPU:
>increasing the rendered resolution
>adding MSAA through the plugin hardware hacks

I know in most PC games these are very GPU dependent processes, but as far as I'm aware almost everything eats through CPU cycles in emulators.

This is the particular game I'm trying to focus on right now, if any kind anons have experience emulating it and want to share their secrets. It runs smooth at 3x res but there's a bit too many jaggies for my taste.

Software mode is far more accurate. 99% of PCSX2 issues can be solved by using it.

Sure, but it's also far slower. And the accuracy gap between GL and software has been closing.

Got a strange issue with Retroarch 1.3.4 and Windows 10

I cannot change the directory settings, all it does is that it flashes shortly. Normally it would change the path and go back into the settings

https://a.pomf.cat/hohklo.webm

Tried it on linux, works there, and also the 1.3.0 works on w10
>>

The workaround is to manually edit the paths in the config with notepad/notepad+. I don't use Win10, so I can't help beyond that.

/emugen/, why are there no no-intro sets for the Atari 2600 and Intellivision?

Is Bliss good for Intellivision emulation?
>>
>redump
>trurip
>tosec
>no-intro
>goodsets

Why can't they just work together?
>>
>>145753393

From what I understand, many have conflicting goals. redump is for optical media only, for example, while trurip actually would like to have a pure rip of every fucking thing on the planet (but only their optical sets have gone anywhere). Goodsets wants to catalog every cartridge ROM ever dumped, regardless if it's even functional (bad dumps, in a word). No-Intro by contrast doesn't give a good goddamn about Lord Fucko of New Zealand's latest romhack he shat out of his backside; they only want the absolute purest ROM for any given game (even overdumps need not apply).

Then there are projects that are borderline defunct. GoodTools/GoodSets, for instance, apparently hasn't been seeing regular updates for a few years running now. And last I heard TOSEC had been completely subsumed by Trurip.

I don't even know about Darkwater. Is Darkwater still alive?
>>
>>145753185
Nobody has bothered starting one basically.

If you wanted a whole set, you could just download the goodset and then use clrmame or whatever to separate out anything that's not good [!]

Alright guys, I need a bit of help with this

I recently found one of my old MAME discs (pic related) and it's got around 1,300 roms on it that I'd like to keep.
When I run MAME32, everything is fine until I get into a game, and the colors are all messed up, like the palette is off or something.
Is my system just too new for it? I've tried fooling around in Win7's compatibility mode options with no luck. I'll try and get a pic of the messed up colors

Thanks for the advice, but I prefer to play with high res 3D assets even with prerendered backgrounds. That's my choice, and the purpose for the original question which I will ask again: Which in PCSX2 has more CPU strain and less GPU strain? MSAA or internal resolution?
>>
>>145767083
MSAA is busted in PCSX2; just downsample
>>
>>145748292
>Triple Triad and the various sidequests literally take forever.
Which is why you can beat all of them and the whole game in under 15 hours.

But if >>145767736 is right then I guess you don't have a choice.
>>
>>145753090
Maybe, maybe not. Square Enix are damn near actively looking for excuses not to bring DQ to the west, so it's certainly not helping. >>
>>145767083
MSAA is more prone to break games than an increase in IR. That aside, just load up your hardware monitor software of choice and compare CPU/GPU load with different configs

You're delusional. They aren't going to bring it oversees because the market isn't huge enough for them to make money hand-over-fist insane from hoards of indiscriminate morons (like anything with the words "Final Fantasy" in its title does). Making a healthy profit isn't enough for corporations anymore; they have to literally make a haul that causes Scrooge McDuck to shit himself to death in rage and envy off of every endeavor, or they're not interested.

Greed, not piracy, is your problem.

>Retroarch is fine if you don't mind every single game stuttering randomly. Retroarch = bad fundamentals. It's not for people who actually want a high quality experience. Like BSNES, it's simply not a good Windows program. Its core input/output sucks cock.
>With a variable refresh monitor or a CRT, games run flawlessly in MAME. They never hiccup or stutter and input lag is as low as it gets with an emulator. With an ASIO build of MAME, audio latency is as low as it gets in an emulator today. You can't get anything even close to that performance in Retroarch. MAME's core I/O is rock solid, which is why I don't even really consider anything emulated in any useful way until it's in MAME.

Lol wut. MAME doesn't even have Vulkan rendering.

I'm using the Ishiiruka Dolphin build.

Why the fuck is this texture pack not working. I have the texture pack in the correct place and load custom textures selected in the options.

I've tried reinstalling dolphin, redownloading wind waker and the texture pack, and none of it has worked.

Rename the folder to GZL, later dev builds don't use region codes for texture packs.
Also make sure there isn't a file called 'portable.txt' in the same folder as dolphin.exe.

The gba-color shaders are much more accurate in terms of simulating the color profile of a GBA non-backlit screen.

>mGBA is a GBA emulator that aims to be accurate while maintaining speed. It's actively developed and has features that VBA-M lacks such as Solar/Tilt Sensor.

>Visual Boy Advance-M (VBA-M) is a fork of VBA with additional improvements. It is not updated as often these days and is falling behind in terms of accuracy and performance compared to mGBA.

>RetroArch's VBA-Next is based off an older revision of VBA-M with added speedhacks and tweaks, making it useful for lower-end devices. It is a bit less accurate in some respects, though it fixes a few games such as Advance Wars 2.

mGBA

>Only GBA emulator thus far to load the NES Classic series due to a peculiar DRM system Nintendo implemented for those (which display "Game Pack Error" and crash on start-up for all other GBA emulators)
>Local link cable support (up to 4 players)
>Functional Solar Sensor (Boktai series) emulation. Besides no$gba (where this feature is emulated in a limited way), other emulators would need the ROM image to be modified, and the fix isn't very ideal.
>The emulator also has functional tilt emulation (WarioWare Twisted, Yoshi's Universal Gravity), and variable rumble emulation (Drill Dozer).

You'd have to be retarded to look at VBA-M and think "Yes, this is the emulator that I want to use instead of mGBA". Adapt. Evolve. Rise Up. There's a reason we don't all use Windows XP anymore.

I just noticed your folder structure.

>Documents \ Load \ Textures \ GAME

If this were regular Dolphin, you would be missing a folder between Documents and Load called "Dolphin Emulator". Or a User folder (with Textures, and everything else contained within) would be in your install folder, if it was portable.

But to be honest I have no idea how Ishiiruka works, so if that is how it's supposed to be then disregard this.

GLideN64 is more accurate and much faster when ingame. z64gl handles the menus better because GLideN64 currently can't handle overlapping buffers very well -- which is why z64gl can handle the Vs effect in Mario Tennis and the thermal goggles in Turok 3, but GLideN64 can't.

It was three and a half years after the regular 3DS was released, and there have only been two exclusive releases for it so far. I don't understand how that's something to get pissed over.

>I've long ago made peace with the fact that I don't much like the modern gaming scene.
Towards the middle of the PS360 era I got bored of it and ended up inside the Nintendo bubble giving no mind to what was going on outside, but randomly deciding to watch Sony's E3 press conference I finally understood how far things have deteriorated. Sad fucking show.

Modern games just aren't for me so I'll keep riding Nintendo's dick for as long as they are able keep doing their thing, and fuck off back to retro gaming exclusively whenever they're forced off to phones.
