The hyperarmor on the golf swing starts very late in the animation. You were hit before the hyperarmor started, but it took the netcode a moment to recognize that the hit stopped because you were staggered out of it, so the hitbox still became active and killed the guy.

You know the stomp has enough recovery that you can never HA a hit with it and still have time to punish, right?
Stomp has two functions: giving your opponent a free hit with no retaliation, and telegraphing that you're about to empty your entire stamina bar and offer a free backstab by performing a slow and worthless attack that does less damage than an R1R1 combo.
Even something slow as hell like another UGS or greathammer can R1 into your stomp and roll out before any possible retaliation.

The game is shorter and more linear than other souls games, so there isn't as much replayability. The poor state of multiplayer on release (terrible balance, magic dead, matchmaking not working, covenants broken, etc.) turned a lot of people away and there was this big backlash., Even a lot of the e-celebs from the previous two games turned their back on it saying shit like the pvp wasn't worth putting time into.
Maybe it'll revive a little when the dlc releases, assuming they've fixed some of those issues by then.

Because the game is at the point in its life where there are no longer any blind players. Every new person coming in has read a guide online and is following it to the letter, which means they all uniformly use the same gear and wear the official shitter uniform because that's what they're told to do.
Want was the scrub emblem for the first few weeks because when you encounter it naturally while playing the game, it seems to be the ideal pve shield. High defenses, good stability (above-average for a medium shield) manageable weight and the soul bonus. Naturally, someone who just encounters it will use it.
Now that there are ample guides available, people don't go into the game blind anymore, or at least those that do are a minority by far. Most "guides" are written by shitters every bit as bad as the people who read those guides, so they mislead gullible newbies into scrub traps like the dark sword. BK shield is easy to farm and basically a direct upgrade over the Shield of Want in every single way. It's pretty much the best medium shield barring the fact that it can't parry. Naturally, ever guide by shitters for shitters recommends it.
From invading a lot I can tell you that the official "I'm bad and looked up a guide" uniform is Fallen Knight with a Dark Sword and BK Shield. The Fallen Knight armor is replaced by Artorias' armor lategame. They will also use one of the Lloyd's rings alongside the pontiff's right eye, and frequently carry an unupgraded pyromancy flame from which they will attempt to cast chaos fireballs.

Refined isn't the problem. Most quality weapons gain less than 20 total AR from the refined infusion. Hollow and Heavy are the most efficient infusions in the game. Weapons that synergize well with them can gain 50 or more AR.
The problem is quality scaling in general. The problem is that C scaling is actually really fucking good, and S scaling is only slightly better than C. In almost every case C/C will gain more scaling damage than something like A/E which means that quality weapons will almost always end up with more AR than their fair share, and gain more damage from leveling than any pure-stat weapons.

Want is legitimately the best small shield that isn't acquired exclusively through random drops or farming.
It's only outclassed by Lothric Knight and Black Knight. The former is better because it can parry and the latter is just a straight upgrade. If you can't parry for shit, there's no reason to use Lothric over Want for pve and there's really no reason to bother farming for BK unless you intend to pvp. Want is actually a good shield, which is why it's flocked to. It basically loses nothing for having a soul bonus and outclasses most medium shields. The only thing that makes it a trap is the fact that it upgrades with titanite scales, but pve-ers never think to spend upgrade materials on a shield anyways.

Blues are just looking for easy wins because they will usually have a host and 2 phantoms backing them up, while he reds tend not to even be interested in fighting you, since they are better off focusing on the host.
