1 is so much better than 2 because the murders felt more real. You didn't know who was going to die and when they did it was complete surprise as well as who did them was also relatively unknown. The atmosphere in the game is also better as the mystery surrounding everything was more intricate.
2 was garbage in that aspect, a huge bomb that you don't know what it does and all of a sudden huge twists towards the end that felt out of place. Although 2 is better than 1 in the interesting murders, it's just that they had less of a striking impact, save for the first one, that one was upsetting, too bad another twist took away it from being long lasting.

If this takes place after DR3, it would be revealing that not only does Naegi die, but that the Ultimate Boxer survives, and the Future Foundation keeps on going. If DR3 is to be the finale of this story, it would be absolutely bizarre to release a manga that takes place after that before it even happened.

I think that was more of a design decision instead of a way of keeping the rating lower.

I don't really have a problem with her "character" in terms of motivation and the like, it just seems like she's way more powerful than she should be. Yasuke Matsuda (Junko's lover) tried to whitewash Junko's brain and get rid of despair, only a base ability of Ultimate Analyst remained, some assume this may be Junko's real power.
AI Junko (the DR2 Junko), states that she is basically an Alter Ego Junko, so she either copied Chihiro, or somehow coerced him, so some people belive Junko's real power may indeed be of copying others.
Some people agree that Junko probably underwent in the academy as a fashionista as to not be too obvious.
Hajime was selected because he was a blank, untalented student, his fanboyism made him sign the deal with reading the fine print, perhaps they didn't wanted to pump Junko with extra powers as not conflict with her pre-existing Analyst/fashionista talent, or they never knew Junko was this talented at all.

Mukuro/Sayaka weep for Makoto while the others would probably just be sad at most. Sakura would probably mourn for Hina in her own way with the others being sad at most. Makoto and Hina are/were likable people so I'd expect to see sad faces from most of them except Celeste since she wouldn't really care.
As for Kyoko, Byakuya, Toko and Hiro.... yeah the best you'll get for them is some sympathy or maybe a bit more but I don't think people will be that affected by their deaths especially people like Byakuya and Toko who were assholes to everyone. 1. Junko never really cared that much about numbers unlike DR2. She just wanted a televised death game to spread despair.

Makoto's death could tip both girls over the edge but circumstances lead to others acting before they do.

1. Well, here's the thing. We get 6 in DR1 and 5 in DR2, and Makoto/Kyoko was supposed to die in DR1. Also I'm pretty sure she mentions that there was something she had in store for Chihiro specifically if Chihiro was one of the final five in DR IF. I don't think she'd end it at 9.
2. I think both are already insane, they're both crazy people with or without Makoto. It's just I think that if Sayaka lasts long enough and sees a bunch of other people die in front of her, goes through the whole class trial process, I could see her making it to the end. Mukuro, I just can't imagine a scenario where she makes it. You'd need a DR IF like scenario where everything breaks down for Mukuro to live.
3. I seem to remember Ishimaru and Celeste being somewhat capable, but maybe I'm wrong. This is a problem with saying the DR1 survivors instead of the DR2 survivors; DR1 characters are generally dumber than DR2 characters.

While it's possible to continue on with the killings even at 9, if this Junko has the memories of the original timeline's Junko, then eliminating the the big players like Makoto, Kyoko and Byakuya to see a different outcome for her killing game could be interesting for her.
2. Well yeah they're both pretty crazy people on their own but Sayaka's even more fragile in areas than Mukuro is. Look at how easy she broke down during the first incentive. If more incentives like the second incentive popped up and without Makoto to be her arc to support her, she's basically rolling down a hill of despair but only gets stopped simply because others beat her to the punch like Togami. So she simply survives long enough because people kill before she does. Mukuro.... well yeah she may not make it. But if they went the IF route for her, then who knows?
3. Ishimaru isn't an idiot but he's kinda clueless at times. Celeste is pretty capable I'll give her that but that was overshadowed mostly by Makoto/Kyoko/Byakuya stealing the spotlight every time. Sakura is pretty smart too IIRC.
I agree about the DR1 characters being dumber than the DR2 characters. Without their big trio, the DR1 characters would probably die.

Well Sayaka's closest person was Ayaka someone you'd think wouldn't be that close to her. Plus she had feelings for Makoto. Maybe Sayaka just feels drawn to the people you wouldn't expect a girl of her status would be drawn to.
