Your infantry are too bunched up, spread them out a bit or you'll get the shit flanked out of you. Move your cannons back and make sure your cavalry stop anyone from going around to take them out. Where they are now, they'll have a hard time firing without shooting a cannon straight up some poor crossbowman's asshole.

I'd move the gunners a bit further back so that they don't accidentally get engaged as enemy units start to overlap around your infantry.

Dwarfs are much better at the pike and shot style of hand gun deployment due to their infantry being much much tougher and with higher moral less prone to flanking issues. but empire can do it too, but they definitely need support.

Is there any way to get rid of a specific voice line? I don't want to mute the game because I love the sound track. I'm playing VC and every time I hear "Darkness comes" I ALWAYS say "and so do i" under my breath. I can't help it, and I'm worried someones going to hear me whispering "and so do i" over and over again, and I can't very well explain it to them. I swear every character, regardless of necromancer or vampire lord says "Darkness comes" at least twice a turn, and it's really putting me on edge.

Sorry for being dumb but can someone explain magic to me?

About the spell on the left, what does it do exactly? What are power reserves? When is the best time to use this spell?

And about the UI on the right. The 30 there is basically the mana of my entire army right? What about that little curving bar there, what is that?

Also, is it just me or are the only useful spells the ones that buff/debuff? Damage and vortex spells feel so weak.

On the left are character abilities, not spells. On the right are spells.

There is a certain amount of mana that you can hold at one time, and you got mana reserves, which returns mana back to you slowly over a few seconds or minutes. Damage spells against a group of units on larger battle sizes are shit. Damage spells against single targets are okay. If you're playing Mannfred or a Vampire hero, you'll learn to love the starting Lore of Death spell.

30 is the amount of magic you have to use
if you hover over it it shows how much magic you have/the rate you take it out of reserves. Reserves is the total amount you have to use

Magic is really weak atm, besides some single target spells and buffs

You've got norscans that sound like posh english, orks that sound like drunks and who suffer from the same thing as the dwarfs, the voice actor's voices aren't deep enough, an ork's voice is supposed to be deafening and booming and a dwarfs is supposed to sound deep and rumbling like the mines they work in, you've got people half assing the empire troops, the same god damn voice actor for each faction because CA was too lazy and cheap to get a different VA for each one. A lot of them have a bad habit of mumbling and slurring words together and its not because the character is like that, its because they're having a hard time trying to get the voice right. At least the brittonians sound okay, its obviously getting a little overblown and forced but at least they put effort in, same with the voice actor for franz and some of the voice actors for the vampires. However the female voice actor for them sucks ass and just sounds like she's some random person off the street reading the lines. I think the biggest culprit is that they aren't really getting into and enjoying their rolls.

When I beat them on Hard I fought the Orcs until I got a WAAAGH and then I attacked the dwarves with it.

If you're going to attack them inside a city try and make sure it's just the garrison you're fighting. The Boar Boy that Grimgor gets helps a lot.

The left are skills or magic items, not spells. Just hover over them and you'll see descriptions of what these skills or items do. On the left the buttons are your spells. The 30 is how much magic you currently have to use. The bar is your power reserves (default 60, depends on winds of magic). This is what is used to fill up the active number (30), and also determines the speed it fills. If you blow all your spells at once, you will have very low power reserves and regenerate magic at a low rate, so the idea is to keep yourself topped off and use spells sparingly unless you've got some good items (Wand of Jet for example).

The reason the only spells that are worthwhile are buffs/debuffs is because the damage is bugged for all spells, and the hit detection on "bombardment" type spells. The higher the Unit Size in your options, the less damage they'll do instead of scaling properly. This is why Searing Doom (Lore of Metal) will kill maybe 4 guys if you're lucky over 15 minutes of pitched battle.

Oh and if you double click a spell before casting it, it will be "overcharged" and have additional or better effects, but have a 50% chance of doing shitloads of damage to your wizard. They also will cost more magic, making overcharging pretty much worthless with how bad magic already is.

God I hope they give magic a serious overhaul if not at least some fucking band-aid fixes. Literally the only reason to play Kemmler or Gelt is if you want to make things arbitrarily more difficult for yourself. Thanks, Warhammer.

Don't rush the Dwarfs, Thorgrim will fuck you up.
Grab your province and go south.
You should be able to go for a peace pact with the bloody spears once you grab the one they have.
Try to confederate later on and then start your crusade against the stunties.
Money is going to be tight.
Sack, raid or build shinies.
Later on you'll get a couple gold mines from the Dwarfs which will ease your pain.
For taking down dwarfs, bring two armies. They're the only faction that doesn't seem to instantly replenish their stacks. So do damage to them and they'll be hurting.
For a starting comp, 4 arrer boyz a couple rock lobbas, and infantry to fill in, use gobbos if you're strapped for cash.
Spiders and wolves can be useful to harass ranged infantry and arty.

be a horde, not a nation. Black Crag is defensible so hold that and maybe the province, don't worry about other settlements, they're all just sack materal. FIND armies, and BEAT THE SHIT out of them. Do not play like you're a nation looking to expand and invest in territory, there will be time for that later. Play like a warboss looking for the FIGHT, seek out armies aggressively and KILL THEM.

I had shit tons of armies, and I can't 100% tell you what I did do early game, I really didn't use many gobbos, other than night goblins later on. Let alone a gobbo raiding crew.

Like I said, run south, I got lucky and the top knotz were complete bros to me, starting the alliance with me, rather than the typical other-way-around. So teaming up on the tooth-dudes and Karak Azul with 2 allies made it manageable.

I like to run a strong economy, so I really only had recruitment buildings in my main city, which I'll touch on in a bit. Big boss tents are incredibly crucial, especially on higher diificulties, if you want to maintain your provinces without rebellions every two turns. They also reduce corruption, so having a ton of them is handy as fuck. Other than that, get walls on most settlements, and if you feel like they're not in danger, feel free to tear them down, and build more economy, if possible.

My capital actually had constant rebellions all game, since I was a greedy fuck. Building only one of each military building is actually viable with global recruitment due to shaman huts giving you more global recruitment slots.

As long as you keep the "orc cav sucks" meme in your mind, while still building a couple cav units you'll do pretty well. Too long cont.

Goblin wolf riders are incredibly cheap, and for good reason. On the same note, they're incredibly fast, and can throw off the dwarves aim if you're willing to throw your cav away.
Abuse Grimgor. If you find a seed of rebirth and/or a health potion, equip Grimgor with it.

I never built a chariot or a giant in my run. Tons of people love the giant, so feel free to build it, but keep in mind, it's not necessary.

Regarding dwarves and the south, though, I only kept my capital city, and expanded south disregarding getting complete "provinces". The dwarves took Iron Rock and I essentially let them, and ignored them, furthering my progress south instead. Early game, dwarves can be tough for an orc to take down. Take a look at your weapon strengths for good armour piercing options. Base orc arrer boys are actually the best archers you can get against dwarves, since night goblins have poor armour piercing, and savage boys have low accuracy.

Do we have any news on FotE? I've seen meloncat around working on WH but I'm really quite more concerned with a finished-up FotE, especially with the startpos fixed up so we don't have to disband and re-recruit entire armies at the start and don't have half-strength garrisons.
Plus having Norse and Slav factions have only their default units feels pretty weird, not least because their unit cards look all different.

Some ccookiecutter guides told me to rush dwarves. But sue for peace with dwarves and go fuck up other orcs? Allright. But generally aim south first, and after that just roll with whatever is going on and focus on beating the other orc factions down, so they give you money for peace and later on force them to join you?

I find that you often won't have red income as Greenskins unless you turn off taxes to help manage public order because of the mine in Black Crag.

That being said, yeah your income being slightly in the red isn't a big deal when you can get the lesser orc tribes to pay you 300-600 gold each turn, and you sack bigger settlements for an upwards of 7-8k.

Thanks again. Loving the general information and guidelines. Most guides and stuff on twc seem to be either faggots whining about weak units and economy as orcs instead of actually giving any advice, or timetables for every turn to something like 20 turns, which is pretty nofun.

Im still wondering though about occupying. Should i occupy something like one or two per province to have some shelter when needed and places to replace losses and generate shekels? Or just wing it and do stuff when it feels good?

Got my Everchosen and Emperor achievment, Very Hard still isn't fun and feels more like work than a game.

Back to Normal or Hard campaign to have actual fun.
Also only capturing Western and Eastern Sylvania and then waging an eternal war against the Empire without capturing or razing anything is the best thing ever.

They don't get cheating income, they simply don't pay upkeep as far as I understand and the AI code allots them a certain amount of recruitment. This is the reason why the AI will be developing its towns, spamming agents as soon as it builds the first building that lets them do it, and start recruiting full stacks from the word go.
Have you never fought one-province factions throwing around four stacks of endgame units before?
