Bethesda has actually been a lot more tolerant of the modding community than they have to be. That's the other thing that makes it so fucking stupid to attack them the way Darren wants everyone to do. All Bethesda has to do is change the EULA, and voila, modding dies.

now, as someone explained to me, the real reason Fallout-verse remains a barren wasteland is because of thematics.
While it's more realistic to have nature reclaim cities, it tends to tell a different message: namely that humanity is ultimately insignificant to the earth, that all our accomplishments will return to the dust from once they came in the fullness of time and we, as a species, will be forgotten utterly.
But the barren wasteland use in fiction is done to illustrate just how carelessly destructive humanity can be. How we, without thinking of the full consequences as a species, can potentially permanently ruin the only home we have and sabotage our future generations.
The latter is what fallout tends to aim for: how because of the pride and hubris of all mankind, the earth has been irreparably damaged.
