Yeah you still get those easy experience points, but the basic structure of Gen 3 is there so gym leaders, trainers, Elites etc. so fundamentally it's harder than XY.
However you get a free Latias/Latios you can box, Mega Evolutions, and the Elite themselves don't receive said megas until the rematch league. (Except for Steven)

The anti-climactic nature of fights really got to me, the only one that actually posed any challenge was the Champion and that's because magically I was at type disadvantages. Fairy was a mistake.

I still don't get how two solid games: Puzzle & Dragon Z and Yokai Watch don't make the recommended list, while their sequels are listed in recommended jap releases and upcoming jap releases. To make it even worse, their spots are taken by such great titles as Chibi Robo, Little Battlers and the One Piece game (which is okay if you're a fan). Monster Hunter 3U not being featured along 4U is weird as well considering everything else that got 'title1/title2' treatment.

I think the framerate is more stable on the N3DS compared to the Wii, but the resolution is much lower compared to the original so it's better if you get that one, or buy it for N3DS and emulate it in 1080p.

Back in the day it was a meme to like it, the game doesn't have much depth in its gameplay and it runs like absolute dogshit on 3DS, there's a PC port but the game isn't really good anyways.

Stocke, Raynie, and Eruca should always have magic boosting accessories except early on when Stocke's physicals do a little more damage. Similarly, you should always go for the weapon that gives them the highest magic stat.
Aht and Marco were both defense, sometimes I switched Aht to magic for boss fights. Gafka and Rosche were both attack. The game's pretty easy though so don't feel like you have to play it perfectly.

Fantasy Life is a pretty fun time kill. You can get through the story in a pretty short amount of time but if you wanna go full autism and do all the quests and get all the jobs ranked up it'll take you a really really long time. There's also post game DLC stuff to extend the fun. Definitely not something you want to play alone though, even though the story is single player only.

I'm considering getting the regular 3DS over the XL because I do quite a bit of travel and I think I might appreciate the smaller form factor but should I get the XL over the regular?

Alpha sapphire is pretty good, though there's a romhack that makes it more difficult and allows you to catch nearly every single pokemon, if you hack your 3ds. I'd highly recommend playing that if you want to go the >>>/hbg/ route
Small n3ds is way better than the xl, plus you can get faceplates for it.

I played the first pikmin and liked it, had 2 on wii but never beat it cause there was no time limit and the cave system was a boring replacement, and got pikmin 3 for free with that wii u deal they had a while back and enjoyed it.
