This isn’t a theory, however I never really got to look at the cover of DR3 and the screenshots so bare with me, I'm sleepy. Based off the cover, the bottom section of the image shows the decay of buildings with one standing tall. Since this is set in the future, its safe to say that the atmosphere is screaming out “despair”. The students are trapped in a post-apocalyptic environment that is more rustic and broken down. I believe that the students or “prisoners” were given up on after a certain period of time. Unlike DR2where Makoto and the others were watching the whole time,the overseers for DR3 were either killed or given up on trying to protect or rehabilitate the students. Because of this, monokuma is able to take over and create the killing game. Also basing off the incident in DR2, I believe that the students like the UD were given a chance to be rehabilitated or “protected”. Although this wasn’t the best solution, society was put first before the feelings and lives of the students. The fear of creating another tragedy even with junko dead wasn’t going to be risked, so it had to be done. However, although in a tough situation, there are positives. The ivy and plants that are growing throughout the images provided for us i.e the image of goateekun hint at hope. Although broken down and in ruins, its easy to see that there is in fact a light at the end of the tunnel but the students are not able to see this till half way through the killings…but we all know hope will prevail :^).

Pigtails has a past that is related to the tragedies that have been shown throughout the series. The fact that she has a teardrop beauty mark like Mikan could hint at her having a fucked up mindset or possibly being a ray of despair. First: this is kind of why I see her losing someone in the past, she has always had death in her life. This focuses more on the death part of the rose’s meaning because it completely goes against the symbolism behind the placement of her mole. She will be like the Nagito of V3, she won’t be trusted but will be essential in the trials. However, she won’t be trusted because she’s batshit crazy. She won’t be trusted because she refuses to let anyone break her walls. Pigtails will be a quiet character that will come off as an asshole but her past will make her more welcoming and innocent. Ultimatly, she dies in V3 but will be brought back to life with time travel being a thing (The Steins Gate theory I’ve posted about). However, like nidai senpai has brought to my attention, she fits the Madoka sense. It has to be her, no changing the outcome of her fate.

Second: She becomes new MC. I only see this happening with the lie bullets theory. This theory involves the first MC to be a victim or murderer. Either way, the trial will have you playing the murderer trying to lie his way from being found out. When hope is lost and despair sets in, pigtails will come in and save the day, thus solving the trial and becoming our new hope. This outcome will still involve time travel and will possibly bring us back to this chapter (well set as a new chapter that will focus on creating a new outcome, so possibly like a second to last chapter) so isn’t technically a new MC, more like a different perspective like Nagito in ch 4.
