I'm new to Total War and just started with the warhammer one. Just a couple of stupid newbie questions since I've only played a couple hours.
Some units require multiple buildings to make. Do all of those buildings need to be in the same city or will it work if it's all in the same province? Like one unit requires a barracks and armory. Is it cool if the barracks is in one town and armory in another as long as its the same province?
Also do your troops healor replenish I guessevery turn unless a stance specifies otherwise? Or is it like civ and troops only heal up if you don't move them that turn? Do they heal up slower if outside a friendly province? I know about merging but if I just have a few units that are only missing a couple troops I was just wondering how to heal them up.
Lastly, ambush. If I go into the ambush stance while another army is already visible will it always fail and be spotted?

It doesn't even take long. Normally by turn 70 it's clear that I'm going to win, and I can't be bothered playing Benny Hill with four/five separate Chaos Stacks.
Which is a shame, because I never really get to play around with the high-end units. Greatswords seem fucking insane from what I've seen. Like, two to three times better than swordsmen/spearmen.

depends on army size. If you play with a couple of units it pretty much boils down to basic understanding of flanking tactics and when to pull your ranged units back. But as soon as you get into larger battles you are going to have skirmish units that need to be micro-managed while your main infantry holds the line on one or two fronts. And then you have to manage your cavalry and break up enemy unit formations etc.

How do you guys deal with massive battles with like 40 units?
I've been trying to do it real time, but it's been going kind of eh. I normally win, but fights that should be over relatively painlessly become slugfests because I'm not 100% on time with everything that's going on and units waste time standing about not attacking.
Up to about 20 units I'm fine, but once that unit bar starts compressing, it becomes a pain.

You chose between 4 factions and from there you build your kingdom / empire, or just do whatever on a world map. This includes picking buildings for cities and making armies and stuff. There's also custom battles and mutliplayer ofc.

I think the ai leaves all missile units on skirmish mode. It's real easy to cheese a few units away from a battlefield if you had something armored enough to not get killed form the arrows
Guys, I really need advice. What are you using for your Empire armies? I am honestly getting overwhelmed a bit. There are so many different units that I don't know which ones to take. Especially since army size is so limited what with your general + any heroes in your army taking up slots. Are spearmen/halberds better than swordsmen for frontline fighting? It says they are anti large so does that mean they wont be good against regular guys? What about artillary and cavalry? I honestly don't know what to put in my armies.

Don't know what to get for my Mannfred as speccing him into a duelist seems counter productive with all the "he dies - army dies" stuff. He seems pretty useful in the backrow with his heals and that strong nuke but the rest of his spells seem kinda lackluster.

At low turn Empire ive been using 4 sword, 4 spear, 2 halberd, 3 ranged, 3 cav, and the Lord.
The Spears and Halberds I put in the frontline to take the enemy's charge. The swordsman are in the second line to move around and flank after the charge has already happened (or alternatively if things arent going well in the front to reinforce). The ranged are screens and can also flank, and the cav are for their cav, or to run down ranged units.

Early game, you want spearmen and crossbowmen.
Swordsmen are shit, and not worth the price. They're a bit better than spearmen 1v1, but not as flexible and about 25% more expensive. Take 1-3 units of Swordsmen in an army for flank charges, which they do well.
The thing is, the early game Empire melee units are shit. They lose 1v1 to almost any other factions started melee units. People moan about Greatswords, and they are very good, but you won't see any for 50 turns.
What you really want is Crossbowmen. Friendly Fire isn't a huge issue in this game, and units will outright refuse to fire if the risk of Friendly Fire is too high for a certain angle.
You basically want 5-10 units of spearmen as your front line, 2 units of swordsmen for flank attacks, and 3-infinite crossbowmen.

If this is campaign, then early game Spearmen and Crossbowmen should be your mainstay. Lategame, you want Demigryphs and Greatswords.
For the early Empire campaign, diplomacy is key. You can make a defensive pacts/trade deals/non aggression pacts early on, then focus on dealing with other shit. I think Talacbeland can normally be made a defensive ally on the spot, unless they've got the distrustful of Imperials trait.

Against greenskins, you take Greatswords or Crossbows.
Their melee units are better than yours. Basically everything up to Halberdiers will lose 1v1 to basic boyz. Your ranged is much better though.

Basically every faction that has them should spam ranged units for early game. They dominate, because armor is so rare early on.

Halberdiers are basically Spear+, yes.
Depending on your economy, it can be worth the upgrade. Generally though, any spot that a Halberdier can fill, a Greatsword can fill better.

Halberdiers actually have a chance of killing things with armor, unlike spearmen.
But Greatswords do that better.
Note that Greatswords are so good, they're actually anti-cav. Charge a unit of Reiksguard into a unit of the Greatswords, and the Greatswords will usually win.
