I play the game but I don't get involved with the waifuposting anymore. It was fun to mess with at first but then I realize it just makes the thread look messy and scares away newcomers who just want to talk about the game. This is the last game for now, and it's very unlikely that a new character's gonna dethrone too many established fan favorites. Ragna, Noel, Rachel, Makoto, Jin, Hazama, Terumi, etc. All these characters are just too strong personality-wise.

And the biggest factors in how popular a character is boils down to two things: personality and character interactions. His personality, in my opinion anyway, is dull as a rock. And as for character interactions, he has an upward battle ahead of him. Naoto isn't like other characters; he's literally from another world. Almost no one knows him. Among the few characters who DO know him (Relius and Valkenhayn), he was never close to either of them. This complete lack of pre-established relationships, especially in the for-now last game in the series, is gonna make things really difficult for him from a popularity standpoint because, as you probably know, character relationships and interactions really are often a huge part of the equation. A dull character might become popular purely due to the relationship they might have with another, more popular character. Of course, on the other hand, a character with minimal relationships or interactions can become popular just through the sheer force of their personality and charisma. Azrael, being a big, larger-than-life gorilla, is naturally oozing charisma. It's how he's made.
That's why I don't think Naoto will get very far. His personality is lacking in charisma and he has few pre-established relationships.. He's the popularity underdog.

His defence is, like, 0. He doesn't have ANYTHING that's not a universal mechanic. That's his biggest flaw for me.
He has troubles against rushdowns. They just get in his face and the only thing he can really do is 5B, and it's fairly shitty. Or jump, and while his aerial mobility and moveset are great jumping is always a risk.

Well if Mori chooses to you use alternate selves of the characters from other alternate realities to caused conflict in the story I wouldn't mind. It will drive the point of the world going mad and the despair that goes on because of the world heading to it's destruction.
