I just looked at some numbers. the teaser trailer and PV01 took 4 and five months to "re-release" to the west as if we hadn't seen the japanese release. As of a few days ago it's been six months since TGS and they still haven't re-released the TGS trailer to the west. So progress appears to be going even slower than previously anticipated.

Yeah, which is part of my point. If it actually took Atlus USA an entire month to translate a 1-5 minute PV because that's how much work it took, we'd be getting P5 in the West around July 2021. As it stands, I can only imagine that Atlus USA is basically sitting on them. Or maybe they haven't even started and are currently working on something else, either unannounced or some weird, obscure publishing job that even we here couldn't be arsed to care about.

They're not consistent about how long before they announce a firm release date.
The norm seems to be 2-4 months prior. But sometimes they do it well in advance. Like P4G, we got a final release date on that like 8 months before it came out.
And the localization is also not consistent. Atlus USA said that the first P4 Arena was one of the largest localization efforts of any game they've ever done in terms of number of lines of text and that one was a quick turnaround. Being a fighting game they of course felt pressure to get it out sooner.
In the case of Persona 5, there are additional factors. The biggest one being that the game has already been delayed several times. How much localization work has Atlus USA done during the times prior to these delays? In the past, they wouldn't even begin until the game was basically finished in Japan. But now based on interviews they've done years ago it seems that the Japanese office is more cooperative with them. On Persona 4 Arena, they said that the Japanese team was rewriting parts of the script even after they had already done translation and voice acting work in English.

My problem with that is personality should be really one of the top reasons to like or dislike a character. Marie's body is fine, but those clothes are just all over the place. If you trimmed it down, it could work but you need to either take off a lot of it, or at least play it up as intentionally ridiculous ala Sho.

why would he need to be deciding a direction when that core daily life gameplay loop IS the primary direction. it's all about that feeling of place that having all these long term relationships running alongside whatever narrative conceit is pushing the conflict forward. its about the journey yknow.
there's a lot to say about its effectiveness and it's results both positive and negative, but i don't think there's really any room for debate when it comes to it being the main thrust of the modern persona structure

They usually have much more creative control in their games, while they don't go full Kojima and overbudget the game like crazy or do retarded choices like removing any pandering that make Atlus lose sales.

But at this point, the way he directed the series is what made people like it overall. If someone doesn't like the way the series is headed, I can understand but then I'd also wonder why they were here.
