It's literally just a slightly more powerful Meteor (with a multiplier of ~10.5 against Meteor's 9) that hits twice, except hitting twice is irrelevant when neither skill is going to hit damage cap against anything relevant. It's also impossible to hone since there haven't been enough crystals released to get it to R2. In comparison, Bahamut is actually honeable, deals about 50% more damage and also hits twice (a change we don't have in global yet, but will be implemented by the time global can craft Ultima).

Nasomi is based on pre-level cap FFXI and as such doesn't have a lot of the things that are in retail. So essentially you'd be playing a completely different game. You can go on Nasomi and "/shout" for help and you might get responses but the population is low and in end game areas. However, in retail you can level to 99 and use all the QoL improvements to the game which make it easier to beat (Just doing Main Story should take less than 40 hours these days) but also easier to play.
It's up to you if you want
a limited-content but teamwork-based, original vision, and enjoyably difficult version
or
a massive-content but mostly single-player focused of older content/teamwork based recent content, quicker to digest, and easier version
I prefer the official version over private but that's cause I just wanted to get through the stories. Either way it'll take getting used to how the game plays, but it is learnable. You just have to remember that this is pre-WoW and inspired by Everquest.

Learn how the bazaar works and the right way to sell useless shit. Yes, there's a right way to sell useless shit, you can get item bundles cheap and good equipment, including some of the best in the game, in the bazaar later if you sell the right stuff.
Don't bite more than you can chew. You most likely will at some point anyway since enemies of wildly different level ranges can and will exist in the same areas, so save often and be careful.
If you're playing the vanilla release, there's 3 chests you must avoid opening if you want the best spear in the game later on. Look them up, you'll get more use out of the spear than their contents.
Offensive magic sucks dong in vanilla and is only good for taking down aerial enemies and for specific enemy strategies. You'll want to prioritize healing and support magic on your licenses. On that same note, elemental equipment is GOAT for exploiting elemental weaknesses and fucking enemies who rely on elemental attacks right in the butt. Be sure to waste some gil on element absorbing armor and shields once they become available because you'll get a lot of use out of them even against late-game and optional bosses.
Regarding team building
>Vaan: high stats in everything, but I find works best with katanas, swords and polearms
>Penelo: highest mag, give her anything ranged
>Balthier: speedy, daggers or ninja swords, works well with spears too if you feel he needs oomph
>Fran: weakest of the bunch, but has the fastest ATB time with guns so just give her one, you can switch it for a greatsword once they become available if you want
>Basch: raw power, (great)swords or spears
>Ashe: red mage-y, give her maces early on and katanas later
