Bloodborne is way less grimdark, because two of the endings are fairly optimistic, and the "gods" in this setting aren't complete assholes..

I played through for the first time recently and even with making a point of not killing the bell-ringers and often summoning NPCs, I got invaded twice in the whole game. Plus when I tried to summon help for Logarius it took probably 25 minutes to find someone. Certain things are decently active, but it's clearly dying down

Gwyn, Nito, the Witch, and the Pygmy aren't assholes either. Gwyn sacrificed himself to keep the age of fire going, which by his reckoning was the only thing that made civilization possible, Nito looks spooky because he inherited the death soul but lives underground and doesn't bother anyone, the WoI fucked up big time but that was out of incompetence, not malice, and the Pygmy was dead when the denizens of Oolacile clearly resurrected and imprisoned him so he has a right to be pissed.

Not really. Cestus are actually really powerful; in 2 and the powerstance moveset has very high damage output. The lack of reach and stagger can be tricky to play around but it's certainly not painful.

That's their gimmick. They're comically easy enemies with fuckhuge damage if you fuck up. They give you a suckerpunch death in order to unlock Hypogean Gaol and then are just easy mooks thereafter.

Protip: they're too tall to fit through most doorways, making them easy to cheese. They;re also very easy to parry, and they'll always buff themselves after 1 successful parry, which gives you enough time to run behind them and charge an R2 for a backstab. You can usually chain-visceral them to death in this fashion.

It would be really nice if 3 also had a really well-hidden 3rd ending.

From the looks of it, our ending choices are basically going to be planting the last lord on the throne and restarting the age of fire or committing a "secret betrayal" and letting the world end.

I actually get the feeling that the reason the elder/younger prince bgm is split like that is because it's functionally just the last boss theme, and our ending choice dictates which of the 2 we fight. Either we side with Lothric, kill the other and then link the fire, or we betray Lothric to stop the linking and let the flame go out.

Maybe there'll be a 3rd path like in ac4a where you just say fuck everything and go off to do some other random shit.

Only problem with Knight is that we don't know how low your Vit needs to be to get maximum benefit from the Flynn's ring in this game.

Knight has 15 Vit, which gives 55 max equip weight. If it's 60 like in DaS2, then everything is fine, but if it's something lower like 50, then Knight is fucked.

It's not really that well hidden. An NPC begins talking to you when you approach his area, making him virtually impossible to miss. Talking to him gives you free levelups, which nobody in their right mind would refuse.

Hollowing isn't hidden, it's just misleading. You're baited into it and the negative effects aren't made readily apparent because free levelups are dangled in front of your face.

Eh, maybe I'm just a sucker for the "merry band of misfits" trope. I mean, if you're undead, that basically means you don't have to eat or drink, so you could spend your days doing whatever you pleased until the fire started to fade.

Do undead need to eat? I mean, the player character never eats or sleeps in game, so I just assumed estus was all that they needed to keep going. However, the fact that consumeables exist shows that undead can eat and derive benefit from the things that they eat, and Seigbrau shows that Siegward drinks for pleasure, at least.

Hunter's Dream was the worst, mostly because of having to teleport to and then from it just to get between areas, which at least wouldn't be as bad if the loading times weren't so abysmal.
Plus it being the only hub that didn't have NPCs going back to it, giving it life, but then even the ones that went to the Chapel weren't particularly interesting for the most part, didn't have any real questlines of their own.

It worked just fine in 2. Being based off your max equip weight meant that builds were forced to keep their vit so low that they couldn't wear anything but rags. 60 was the perfect number in that game because it still let cloth-wearers use ultra weapons, so in effect there was no weapon that didn't fully benefit from flynns.

Making it based on equip % is a stupid idea because it means that every max level shitter in full havels could also use it, and vit-gouging poiseflynns would be a thing. The whole point of flynns was to force the user to eschew poise if they wanted the damage bonus.

I disagree. It's the place where all the NPCs you'd met in your travels came to stay and rest which made it full of fun merchants and characters during the mid game. That's what made it so heartbreaking when they slowly take their leave and head back out into the world as you get close to the end.

I think that's my least favorite part about Bloodborne. The fact that they decided to make the messengers the only merchants in the game and had all weapon upgrading happen in the workshop took so many interesting character positions out of the game. Sure Eileen and Alfred and Valter are all great, but when I think back to DaS1, I also remember fondly characters like Laurentius and the Crestfallen Merchant and Andre — all positions that are now fulfilled by a birdbath and a table.

Honestly, I think it shouldn't be based on % equip load or max equip load, but instead be based on the current weight of everything you have equipped.

Either way the description is identitical to DS2's description. It could work different, but it definitely shouldn't work in a way that makes pumping VIT effective with it. It's supposed to be a ring for people who don't pump vit.

It's not that bad. It just rewards patience more than the other games.

Also sprinting past a part is less encouraged since enemies aggro for a lot longer. Sprinting through DS2 is a good way to get yourself swarmed if you plan on stopping anywhere before the boss.

The shit level design doesn't contribute to the difficulty. It's shit in the "this is really bland, why is the boss door 5 steps from the entrance, why did I bother exploring when this long path just lead me to a dragon charm, why am I still playing this?" kind of way.

There aren't that many horrible hitboxes. If you've ever lurked a thread on /v/, you've seen literally every bad hitbox in the game because the 5 of them that exist in total are all made into webms and reposted constantly for the sake of cherrypicking. Don't be making collision with a mimic when it opens and level ADP and you'll be fine.

The controls are no worse than any other game in the series. There are a few changes (read improvements) that people will never stop complaining about because any change from DaS1 is bad and wrong and ruined everything because change is bad.

The enemy placement is more forgiving than DaS1 but that won't stop people that sprint into an area and aggro everything from insisting it's bullshit and artificial difficulty.

The truest artificial difficulty is the fact that iframes are tied to a goddamn stat. Literally who thought that was a good idea? The game design is bland and uninspired but not ball-busting or cruel to the player. The game is easier than DaS1 in general but has various points where it becomes more difficult.
