I will definitely miss Max and Chloe, but it depends. I will definitely go in with lower expectations and try to prevent myself from getting hyped.
But the series is still pretty new and defining what it is. As long as they learned from their mistakes and can properly distribute the time and budget to all aspects of the plot I may be able to forgive them for messing up the end of S1. And there may even be cameos or Easter Eggs which would be nice, especially if they were based on a S1 save. Little stuff that hints to what happened to the characters. Dontnod nailed the little details, they just need to take a step back and evaluate the larger plotline to make sure it all fits.

We don't know what Rachel thought. Even if she wasn't in love with Chloe like Chloe was with her, she still cared about her. She cared enough to try to (in her own misguided way) keep Chloe from being hurt and wrote a letter that explained how she felt.
Rachel didn't seem like the one to commit to one person so it would have been unfair to lie to Chloe and pretend to love her. The reason she did it with Frank was because he knew Rachel would eventually leave him and he probably knew he was not the only man in her life.

I think Episode 4 was pretty clear in showing that Nathan really just needed help and felt forced into his role in things. I ended up rewinding and stopping Warren from beating him after I saw him crying. I even thought showing him that mercy, and letting him keep the gun, would mean he helped me out later. Even before Jefferson's reveal as the villain, I had the feeling Nathan was not the one in charge. It would either be Jefferson, Sean, or Samuel.

It could have been a really amazing story of "oh if only you'd been paying more attention and not so judgemental, maybe he could have been saved but in this run he can't" similar to Kate and Frank, but on turbo hard mode.
But the problem is that every episode there's opportunity to make choices for or against Nathan, and those end up having no impact on anything. There's no reward for players who DID catch on early on that he's got severe problems and wanted to play it from that angle - same as there's no option for players who cottoned on to Jefferson but to allow Max to wander into a blatant trap and then lament that she never suspected him.
This game had an amazing opportunity o truly put the story in the players' own minds, altering the story based on how they understand the story, giving people choices that test their interpretation of reality, rather than choices that simply show off how many scene alterations they're capable of devising. But boy did it miss the mark in the completely lack of pay off for any of that.

One thing that does kind of bother me is that we pretty much never got to see Jefferson and Nathan interact. There was that scene in the principal's office but the game never really hinted that the two had some affiliation up until the end. I'm not saying that Jefferson wasn't being foreshadowed as the villain, he clearly was. It just felt kind of off to me that arguably one of the most important relationships in the game (it essentially kickstarted the main plot) is only alluded to.

Totally. I actually really liked the meagre amount of foreshadow leading up to it, because it felt fairly realistic in how hard these things are to spot. But yeah, once it was officially revealed, some sort of interaction was definitely needed. The complete vagueness of what went on is why opinions on Nathan still range from "complete victim" to "pathetic psychopath" and everything in between, even among people who were paying close attention. Because there are key details missing that could very easily put him in any of those categories. This isn't something that can be justified as muh ambiguity, it's a vital factor in making this twist an actual twist instead of just model swapping Nathan for Jefferson at the 11th hour.

It would have been so simple to do. Shortly before the scene with Kate on the roof, show Nathan outside on the phone and clearly distressed about something. Then you see Jefferson outside the classroom on the phone.
Put two and two together and you can see that they're talking to each other. Or even put a framed picture or something of Nathan and Jefferson in Nathan's room.

But I think the problem is really just in episode 5.
Being able to see Nathan in the past maybe, or revisit a scene win the two present with new context to allow an interaction, etc. Imagine being able to do over the blame scene somehow instead of just texting David from the classroom focus where we can't see anyone really react to the time hack.
Having the option for Nathan to be alive and present in the dark room would have been good on many fronts, for example, and was something many people expected as a "well obviously, why wouldn't that happen?". To see the two intracting without hiding their relationship or what they're doing would have been amazing. Even just hints of it, like Max in a semiconcious state vaguely witnessing them before/as Nathan is murdered.
Instead it's just Jefferson jerking off to himself, talking like a Disney villain short of bursting into song. So it's probably good that they didn't attempt anything more complex or they'd only ruin it, but still.

For real though, it's pretty fucked up how they hyped the shit out of the finale. From blowing their budget on episode 4 by pimping the shit out of it, making everyone think they somehow shat out a few surprise gold bars, to the ridiculous amount of hype supplied by those teasers. They really went the whole 9 yards in terms of fucking over the most invested segment of the fanbase. Fucking cunts.

Seriously. They spewed out about 7 videos worth of promotional content in the space of two weeks (about (90% of which was old footage) for a single game episode. Even if Episode 5 didn't suck that would still look excessive. Any other episodic game (including the previous ones for LiS) would just leave it at one trailer and a few screenshots.

I gotta admit, as much as I was a deluded "They don't screw it up, you pessimists," I did start to worry when the promos started to basically sensationalise an experience that had previously been dealt with with impressive realism and nuance. It suddenly just became an arbitrary "ho boy, how will Max get out of this one?!" Which is all it really ended up being in the episode.
