Trick weapons would become 2-in-1 weapons.
First mode is a gun. Guns are almost solely for lowering defenses and breaking enemy shields and stuff, they don't really do any damage to the stuff you fight. Second mode is melee mode, this is what you use to kill enemies.
You might have a shield, but I see it as a parrying tool to deflect income melee attacks than something to hide behind.

A few different materials for like, energy levels, damage output, gunfire speed, need for sacrifice if it ran with that.
Optional space stations to stalk through would be pretty cool, but I'd give them some incentive rather than just grinding and farming locations. Also diverse designs because BB's chalice dungeons are fucking boring.

You could potentially heal in combat, maybe through some sort of spell. Having full health at all times just makes it easier to make more challenging encounters, since players will always be ready for them. It also isn't a guarantee of full health since if you didn't upgrade the stat you may have to wait a while.
Could also have interesting situations with exploration. Instead of having poison areas, there would be areas you literally can't enter unless you have high enough regeneration to negate constant environmental damage.
