If you're only going to upgrade it to the safe limit it doesn't matter.
Often times you may want to over-upgrade (upgrade past the safe limit) your weapon, so you'll get 1 card and several weapons and overupgrade them to the desired level, and several will break in the process, and after you successfully reach your desired upgrade level THEN you put your card in it.

Stat enchant to chest removes any equipped card and upgrades, because it is actually giving you a new copy of the item. The slotting NPC works the same.
Weapon upgrades don't work that way, but you risk losing the card with the weapon if you upgrade it past the safe limit with a card in it.

you can start with monk if you know what you're doing and you have a plan setup. if you have to ask, I'm guessing you don't. you can still go for it, but you will have a somewhat hard time compared to most other jobs (hey, you're no merchant at least). you will have to solo punch a lot of shit as a combo monk and that's not particularly fast, though it is pretty fun the first time you do it.

Free tip:
Get Bless 10 and pneuma early, then ranged mobs are almost free kill exp.
Or got full int and heal 10 until like 65 lvl to healbomb undeads via shift+heal. DoM allows free stat and skill reset if you are below 70 lvl, but only once. When you are monk and lvl around 70 - use that reset and go agi/str/dex and bless/agi/pneuma. You don't need heal 10, since you have no int and your heal will be laughable.

Also keep in mind that you need Divine Protection and Demon's Bane maxed in order to unlock monk skills. Job lvl 50 on aco is a must.

if you want to autism powerlevel to 99 as fast as possible: wizard = priest (party the whole way through, will take like a day)
if you just want a good character to establish yourself on the server (farm money, gear, etc) before you switch to whatever you want to main: hunter > bard/dancer = rogue
but that's if you want to be as optimal as possible. is this your first time playing? if so, don't bother going full hardcore with it. have fun, play whatever the hell you want to play and try to find a casual guild to play with so you aren't stuck solo forever. combo monk will be fine for that if that's really what you want to play, the problem comes if you want to play asura/spirit monk immediately, that's nearly impossible gearless and on a first character.
you will most likely have to make some kind of farming character eventually but you can get a lot of mileage out of just playing combo monk. the good farming spots will need you to shell out some money for elemental weapons or make a sage on an alt account to endow yourself though.

The annoying mobs have a reason to be in maps, it's to make partying balanced. Or else everyone can easily mob an entire map and get to 99 in two days. Might as well play a mid or high rate
