I don't think so. I remember 9.2 users having to wait a very long time without updating before they got what they wanted.
I made an improved non-kickass starter pack.
It should have everything required point-to-point to get up and running from scratch (pre-downgrade) to rxTools (excluding the firmware files). I also took the liberty of rewriting the firmware .bat file to be more streamlined.
I wrote a pretty thorough readme for the entire process, but some wording is either vague or nonexistent so fleshing out those would be nice.
Also, it works during any part of the process so if you just downgraded and don't know what to do next you could follow along perfectly by starting to set up rxTools.

Both 3DSs can be downgraded and/or use CFW if that's what you mean. You have to be careful which firmware files you choose, though.
If you're talking about games it doesn't matter, but out of region DLC requires NTR.

Arguable. Cakes is a better CFW in general, but is newer and doesn't have all the same features yet.
Cakes wasn't made for the N3DS, though. mid-kid, the creator of Cakes, uses an O3DS and doesn't plan on upgrading. This also means fixing bugs on the N3DS is harder for him because he needs someone else to test things.
You can autoboot any CFW as long as you have menuhax and ctrbootmanager. In fact, you can install both CFWs and have them each as entries on your CTRBootManager list.

That's the point. If you use type 2 autoboot and don't press anything, you boot into the regular system. If you use type 1 and don't press anything (and didn't press any button when you assigned it) you should boot into ctrmanager automatically. If you open up the boot.cfg and change the timeout to 0 it will boot into rxTools automatically and skip ctrmanager altogether.
You can't just boot into emunand without having any other screens pop up, btw.

Finally managed to install everything and a couple of .cia (Smash and Rodea), but whenever I try to play online with Smash (emunand 10.3) I get "You will not be able to play online without agreeing to the nintendo 3ds service user agreement", even though I did agree. Rodea, on the other hand, doesn't even start after I agree the User Agreement, so what I think is that this is somewhat buggy. Any way to fix it?

EmuNAND formatting literally takes SysNAND and copies it to the SD card in a separate partition. You can even flash that NAND.bin back to your 3DS (Gateway Menu, Hardmod) if you wanted.

Launched RxTools on my DS.
It tells me to go into 'other options' and pick 'inject FBI to emunand' but I don't see that option at all. If it matters there were three choices for FBI files for me to put into my SD card and I just picked one at random cause the guide says it would be fine.
The closest option of the three I see (the other being downgrade MSEt and restore original H&S app) is just Install FBI over H&S App. Is this what the guide means?

Wait, I think I've learned something. Just tried booting into CTR from Sliderhax, which then loaded into rxTools, which then auto-booted to... Menuhax. Which then booted to CTR again, and so on.

No, this is just an alternative to the health and safety injection. Pasta still runs in sysnand so you don't really want to use it.
After you install fbi.cia you create an emunand with either the gateway menu or emunand9. Make sure you back up your files first because this will wipe the SD card.
Once you have an emunand you copy back your files and then setup rxtools.
This is probably seeming like a really long process, but it's definitely worth it.

If you're not sure which folder in /Nintendo 3DS/ you should be using, move your Nintendo 3DS folder somewhere else and find out which folder your 3DS is generating when you put the card in on the home menu.

I've got everything working so far.
Here's the thing: I want to update my emunand from 9.2 to 9.5 because people said it might be needed for some games soon and not all games have fw spoofed .cia's.
Can someone give me a REALLY foolproof guide on how to do this? The last time I tried to do it I ended up updating my sysnand and everything fucked up.
I'm type 2 menuhax which means if I press nothing I boot into emunand, if I hold L I go into sysnand

Get yourself FBI on EmuNAND and install+run profi200's sysupdater.cia (the original one) and use it to update emunand.
You can get HBL on your EmuNAND (and sysnand!) by installing yellows8's Homebrew Launcher Loader, which is a .cia. Hold Y while booting it for the first time and it'll download the payload it needs so you can use it offline in the future.

Don't worry, anon. The downgrading process is the biggest part you can fuck up on. Just make sure after you make the emuNAND that you only install shit on there, and also have NANDs unlinked. From there on, no more worries, just free games.

Yes. You just need to remember which NAND you were in previously. That's the only way.
As for the updating to 9.5 guide, there's actually a link to one in the link you posted if you scroll down toward the bottom of the first post.
To sum it up, you'll be running sysupdater on your emunand with some 9.5 firmware files. Basically you're using the same program you downgraded with (but you probably want to go download a different version) and just a different firmware package. Load it up. Hit update. Wait. Done.
