Late 2011: Dark Souls 3 was called Dark Souls 2, Bloodborne comes in so focus shifts on that. Dark Souls was a success so a new project which is the current Dark Souls 2 you know is started and directorship of that one changed in 2013.

The DaS2 opening is most likely one since it shows the early concept art Drangleic Castle and the Lakeside area which was originally going to be the opening area of the game (they mentioend in the interview how what is now Things Betwixt was a mid-to-late game area where you faced dragons, probably the base of the Dragon Aerie, that was later repurposed as the opening area).

Pretty sure soul memory and the final stat systems were approved by him with over 6 months to spare dude because it was different in stress testing. All Souls series games that have had stress tests were from 4-7 months before the game is released and it's evident the MP and stat systems were different and closer to Dark Souls 1 back then.

They really did have time to balance the game to his liking, and he was happy with it until fan feedback and that's the truth.

DaS1 had less of a development time dude than Tanimura's time on DaS2 dude, though that isn't fair because Miyazaki worked on the Souls game previous to that one too. Then again, Tanimura had two Souls game to emulate in front of him.

I think you just got lucky with your bootstrap nodes. During the Steam transfer the ptde beta was used to test the Steamworks matchmaking. The normal version was still using GFWL. Once they went Steamworks only, the beta version had no purpose. From seems to have abandoned the PC version again, evidenced by the existence of the new namecrash bug they refuse to fix, and the fact that you can still use the beta version.

Who else genuinely prefers Bed of Chaos over 4shits?

Like, Bed of Chaos at least has a bit of creativity and challenge behind it, and can be killed with whatever. But 4skins is a retarded DPS race, which is something that really shouldn't be in a souls game which is based around 80% skill and maybe 20% equipment, although it can technically be 100% skill. Maybe it's not the worst boss in the series, but is definitely the worst of DaS1.

Finally got the SOFTS Edition of Dark Souls II.

Having beat the original version of the game (unpatched) on PC when it first came out, but never bought the DLC because I hated it so much comparing it to Demon's Souls and Dark Souls.

After (I assume) tons of patching, the game finally feels fun to play in PvE. The changes to the first few areas (ToFG, HToF, Wharf) were pleasant in the SOFTS edition.

Does anyone know why the game feels "better" now? My major complaint with the game back when it first came out was that you got insta-stunlocked in for at least two hits by any type of weapon (PvE or PvP), compared to Demons/Dark where after 1 hit if it didn't stagger enough you could just roll out. It feels just like Demons/Dark in PvE now. Haven't tried PvP yet.

Making a spellcaster build (magic/pyro) as my first run of SOFTS. Am I making a mistake?

I don't really think that DaS2 animations are bad, but that's not the point. The point is, DaS1 animations are stupid. I thought they were stupid first time i played the game on PC release, i think so now. It's especially bad on maces and axes, there is no need for a wind up animation so fucking slow and long. Having slow windup with a clear indication of where and when you are going to attack is the last thing you want to do in battle.

It's fine. However, you need to know that all enemies in the DLC areas have an added layer of resistance against spells and spells only. You need to either stack more spell casts or rely more on your melee weapon. Elemental damage from your melee weapon isn't affected by the spell resistance, only the general resistances of the enemies.

All the enemies swing slow and exaggerated as balls as well because the entire game is about cues, timing and prediction. The weapons have that much windup and followthrough to feel more powerful and to give human enemies decent time to react to them with other movements that are necessarily slower because of PvE. This is a game where swords get up to fucking 50 kilos anyways, who the fuck cares?

I prefer KB+M on DS2. Don't need to master the controller claw grip to turn the camera while running.

Default keybindings are shit though. Had to unbind almost all of the mouse inputs.
