it's an acquired taste. 1 direct->1 indirect is the easiest way, though you can also hit someone with 3 indirects sloshed over a splash wall if they're too dumb to realize what's going on. run some ink recovery/bomb range so you can spam your splat bombs often.

http://stat.ink/ is a *ridiculously amazing* and complex site by a Japanese user fetus-hina. It uses screen recording software called IkaLog that, if you have your Wii U hooked up through your computer, can analyze battles and provide detailed stats (example: https://stat.ink/u/ikameshi/236422) of when in a match you died, by what means, number of kills/deaths, stats of all players on both teams, etc. The code's all on GitHub as well, for stat.ink as well as IkaLog:

I do manual data entry via a (Japanese only for now) Android app called イカレコ (IkaReco, SquidRec) where I can enter the battle type/rules, map, K/D, and points scored. FINALLY got to try out octobrush nouveau. Won every match despite being rusty, consistently scored best coverage for team at 1200 and up, and constantly had best k/d ratio for team, the lowest at 5/2 and the highest at 10/2.
