can't remember when the nagase drop was over but I got the shinden the day after that, I used some research tokens (or whatever they call them) for the first 2 levels then I just played normally after that (6 sorties/day) except for the the 2 emergency sorties I got during in which I used 3 stocked by accident, which might have helped boost it faster than I expected.

Last day for the Nagase drop was only 2 weeks ago. I guess the raids helped you out a lot because after I reached the middle of the tree, it started taking me 30 sorties to finish up even one node/one aircraft level, despite pretty much all of my planes being under level 6.
My Flanker is only level 5 and I'm still only getting like 4% research per sortie. For aircraft parts, I'm only getting 2% per sortie, sometimes 4% if I'm really lucky.

After digging around into Planes & Mercs, I've decided that it's maybe not the best fit for running ace combat. It's entirely too autistic (not that I mind,) but between that and Roll20 being entirely unsuitable (I'm going to look into the viability of vassal) It seems like it'd be a colossal pain to try and play in real time. Like maybe a handful of turns in a multi hour session, with 90% of the delay being in updating the visual representation.
That leaves the option of play by post, and while we're dedthread enough that it could work, it's also something I am not the fondest of due to potential for flaking and slow speed. (Seriously, It'd be updated like once a day, or even less.)
That being said, I personally just think the firestorm ruleset is not well suited for what I want, and possibly what you guys want.
But don’t fear, I’m going to look into the possibility of coming up with a ruleset (probably stolen equally in parts from firestorm, air war, and maybe aerotech or something crazy) that will allow for faster, simpler, and hopefully more intuitive play with an accompanying lite RPG ruleset that hopefully won’t be too complex.
Anyways, if the demand for a PBP game (with the existing Firestorm ruleset) in the thread is enough, I’ll give it a try, provided that all parties involved understand there’s a very high chance of disappointment, shame, and going down in flames. I’d have to restrict the number of players we’d start with to 4.
In the meantime, I’ll be looking into the possibility of cobbling together what I described above.
Let me know what you guys think and I’ll go from there.

There are two types of manuevers, standard maneuvers you can activate anytime. and combat maneuvers that are similar to the Ace Combat 3D dogfight mechanic. The standard maneuvers help to get around the crappy motion controls (why I recommend a gamecube controller or other such peripheral), where as the combat maneuvers help you to actually win against some of the bullshit hacker aces that you fight.

So slot expansion points multiplier does increase the lower level you restrict the aircraft to. I got 1.14x bonus when setting Lv.15 plane at Lv.10.

well so much for trying to get back into this game, Bamco has made it literally impossible for new players to win or at the very least feel like they're contributing.
My highest ranked plane is 1300 cst which is a level 6 T-50 and I simply can't do anything to help my team achieve the goal, i kill maybe 20 targets the whole match because I'm either too slow or too underpowered to score any kills before everyone else steamrolls an area with carpetbombed superweapons dropped from futuristic superplanes.
Not to mention the introduction of several thousand different items that I have no idea how to use and lobby leaders that kick at the first sign of 1800+ matching rate.
How do I git gud again /aceg/?

It's just luck. New player here and always go to rooms with similar matching rate and its 50/50, either people will be using alright (but still overleveled by my standards) planes or they steamroll everything so fast that I might as well afk because every time I turn to face a target 5+ missiles crash into it the second I press circle.
Last time I got 3000 points because the FIGHTERS were going super fucking hard after the ground targets for no reason and my slow ass multirole just couldn't keep up with them reaching faster and taking out targets all the time.

Sounds gay, but the flying in the PS2 games is graceful. Even after an intense flight, watching the replay or the computerized ribbon thing during the score screen looks awesome and semi-realistic.
Just watching other peoples gameplay of Infinity makes me sick. Every plane jerking around all over the place. So disgusting.

Rolling your jet actually has some momentum and heft to it, it's not snappy and rigid like the PS2 games. You can pull sharper turns because of high-g maneuvers though.
