What's ridiculous is that the 3DS hacking scene has essentially stopped progressing. It's not that people feel entitled to a new exploit, it's that there really should be continued work on one. Maybe there is and it's just being kept secret so it works on a million versions when it comes out someday, but from the perspective of us, it looks like shit plateaued.
BTW I have an O3DS with CFW. I still want CFW on newer firmwares because I updated my N3DS XL before I got into this and I'd rather be using that most of the time.

That's just not how this is supposed to work. Look at Minecraft modding. They've got shit more standardized since the olden days, but they're still using a third party mod API (Forge) and their shit still breaks with every Minecraft update, yet they continue to all update their mods and their API for newer versions and then stop focusing on the old ones.
Perhaps this isn't completely comparable because you probably couldn't reliably find kernel exploits forever or else it would be a damn bad kernel, but I feel like people here are just doing things a little wrong.

Someone in the old thread mentioned changelogs when an anon mentioned a potential secret kernel exploit on 10.1 (hypothetically, version chosen at random in discussion against updating even when above 9.2), then someone said that this sort of situation wouldn't come to be due to Nintendo releasing changelogs. He seemed to claim that a kernel exploit being patched would be mentioned in the changelog. Is this how the 9.2 exploit was found?

The 9.2 exploit was found by Gateway. Maybe someone found it before them, but if they did they didn't release it. The same goes for the 4.5 one.
The changelogs I was talking about aren't Nintendo's ones, but the ones automatically made by Yellows8's bot when each update gets released. If you really think they fixed an exploit in 10.0 or whatever, I guess it would be a good idea to look for it in what they changed there. It doesn't seem to be there, though.

If in the USA, all N3DS (non-XL) models are too new of firmware. You either have to get one from another country to get an N3DS XL.
You can find out the firmware it comes with by the first 6 or so characters of the serial numbers, so I'd suggest any store where you can see/touch the boxes, or a place with a nice employee to check for you.

I think the 9.5 emunand limit on N3DS is linked to the FIRM arm9loader and a keyslot not being cleared. This was fixed in 9.6 with new keys. You'd have to find another exploit like this to bring the N3DS up to more recent emunand.At least, that's what I understand.

Yep. Install and run QCMA, connect your Vita to your PC and open the CMA app, unplug the USB cable and leave the error message that pops up, connect it to your PS3, close the error and continue as normal. You have to do this because otherwise CMA will force you to update before you can transfer to/from a PS3.

Error 106 means your .cia is corrupted. If you use Hash Tab to check the one on the SD, it will have a different MD5 than the source on your PC.

-Use EmuNand Tool to extract your old EmuNand, use TinyFormat to format your EmuNand, then use EmuNand Tool to reinject your old EmuNand
But your problem sounds like you didn't inject your old EmuNand onto your new SD at all, and only copied the old files over. Make a new EmuNand on that new SD use EmuNand Tool.

EmuNand Tool will extract a file called emuNAND.bin. When you choose to Inject, it'll auto-detect your SD and it's EmuNand. It'll then inject the emuNAND.bin you chose.

For moving from a smaller SD card to a bigger one, has anyone had any issues with the "Nintendo 3DS" folder? Certain files, mostly "00000001.sav" files, just won't copy to my desktop. Every other folder and item on my SD transfered fine, EXCEPT the "Nintendo 3DS" folder.

I didn't follow this myself, someone else who set up a server that allegedly followed this method helped me. The guy also said that it has a 25% (?) chance of bricking upon actually finishing the update and restarting to apply it. But it definitely works.

Generally that means you need to have a good microsd card reader. I ran into a problem once when I used an sd card reader with an sd-microsd adapter. Plugged in the microsd directly and it copied fine.

The only issue with backing up my files through SDTV/Save Manager is that one of the games I have a Nintendo save backup of is KI:U, which I don't actually have downloaded at the moment. If it comes down to it, I suppose I don't mind losing my save data for that game, but I'd really like to avoid it if at all possible.

I placed mhx.3ds on the root, launched rxtools 2.6, CTR Decryptor and when it said it was finished I picked up the rom and placed it next to the program.
If I input D name or D name.3ds it says name==D wasn't expected and exits.
If I input D then it tells me to input the filename with the extension, and then after that it asks about code.bin but I still get nothing.
CTR Decryptor should generate a new file or it just changes the rom?

you will need to tweak a few steps to work with mhx rather than sm4sh update stuff but that's not too difficult
