Games like Path of Exile are already played remotely, with server-side verification of everything you do. Cheating comes from the client side, and as a client, whether we're connected to one or many servers isn't an important distinction. If you plan on introducing client machines into the butt, then it stops being closed and secure.
In essence, what you're talking about is having the client be paper-thin, like the VAX terminals of yore, but how does a server on the butt verify that a client computer is a thin terminal rather than a general purpose computer in disguise? Everything required to verify the thin client's identity has to be in the client somehow, so it's always possible to reverse engineer that identity. Much like how Blu-ray encryption hasn't held out, because the disk has to be decrypted on the machine you're using, so the security isn't actually very strong.

Botting is primarily about understanding the network traffic of the game, and it has basically the same problem, that network traffic always has to be comprehensible to a client that you have physical access to. The only way the server can vet what your ethernet cable is plugged in to is via network protocols---handshaking and the like---but when you have physical access, you can always play man in the middle. So what do you think your binary blobs will contain, and do you think your blob developers will have more time on their hands than the forces of botting?
I don't know if anyone actually cares enough to go through all this trouble with consoles. I do think people would go through the trouble with persistent online games on PC, because gold selling is very lucrative for certain people who don't mind jumping through technical hoops.

i haven't played it, but if devilian follows the trend of previous trion games, it will have server capacity issues for a week and unless you pay them money you won't be able to play. when Archeage released everybody who didn't pay for Patron had to wait in queues for 8-12hrs. also, the game will have some sort of "labor" system that prevents you from progressing at a competitive pace unless, again, you pay them more money. it will more than likely also some kind of home/base/hideout/whatever that you can only buy with money that also gives you bonuses like earning gold, items, experience, whatever. the game is guaranteed to be p2w in more than a few ways.
trion also has a bad habit of lying to people. they have no problem pissing off massive hordes of people. do NOT give them your money. you will regret it
but, the game will probably be fun to play even for f2p players. it is free after all

Fixed Pricing, the savior of PoE's broken RMT driven and anti competitive game economy
>What is fixed pricing?
Fixed pricing is in simple terms a method to predetermine and assign a currency value to everything in the game, including the value of currency itself at a pseudo, "fixed" price in order to eliminate game cancers. For example: the third party real money trading of items. RMT of items is virtually eliminated by making all exchanges of items forced through the trade window with a predetermined fixed price attached to it. In order to determine a fixed price, a predetermined currency valuation system will be assigned to the following: affixes based on tiers and rolls low-high, maximum Sockets (<max = no/min value), maximum Links (<max = no/min value), Vaal Corruptions, Item Level, Item Base and socket color extremity. Each mod will be assigned a currency value corresponding to its RNG which reflects the probability of each Valuated mod occurring. The same system will be used for Maps, Flasks, Cards -- anything that can be traded.
Some other problems curbed by fixed pricing include the ability to effectively bot, scams, hacks, multiboxing and unfair hand outs
Naturally some players think that fixed pricing wouldn't work and here are some common misconceptions about it, problems and solutions.

Fixed pricing doesn't mean the price of an item can't fluctuate and adapt to a market. The value of all items can be tracked and players would be able to price any item within a small variable percentage of its fixed value. The fixed value could update each day or possibly hour, second or at any determined time interval. This would allow the price of items to meet supply and demand. To prevent market manipulation, fixed price trade values would only count once per item per day or otherwise a determined value and time interval. So you couldn't, say, trade the same item over and over again to control its value, it would only be tracked at a determined interval.

This is true however players overall will be able to trade much more efficiently than before since the vast majority of the leg work is taken out of trade, with the bulk of the price already being determined. This in turn gives players more time to actually play the game. A player won't have to weigh the time it takes to trade vs running a map since the price is largely established.
Alternately, a system like that employed in Diablo 3 could be a solution to the problem, whereby players can give items to other players who were in the party at the time they were found in, "group found" items in other words. The idea being to encourage players playing together rather than annoying begging and hand outs. Unlike Diablo 3, players would still be able to trade everything they find with anyone anytime outside of the party.

If players want to pay real money on top of the fixed price when they could buy it without paying any real money to a legitimate player, so be it. I considered it, but witch is REALLY inefficient, and loses a lot in terms of health pool, damage, and requires an active skill to maintain life on block. Additionally, I REALLY want to use the corrupted legacy Anvil I have. It is something to consider being a block based witch, but having to manually maintain life on block seems a bit too tedious for me.
