Yah? That's a perfectly good starting point. She has an entire party of witnesses to her behaviour and whom she left with.
She didn't just go to a party, wake up in her dorm, and not know exactly what happened in between. She left with a suspicious boy, was taken somewhere strange and injected with something while a third party was present, then woke up decidedly not in the ER to which he claimed to be taking her.
If you don't go to the police under those circumstances, you need a serious reality check.

I love this picture because it first suggested to me something I would have never thought about in the context of the narrative alone. The idea that Max and Chloe could lead happy and fulfilling lives completely without each other. Like, even never having met or reunited. The whole game was about the implication of not being able to reconcile, not being able to make good on a missed opportunity, not being able to be with your "soulmate" and the tragedy in that. But with this picture for me there's the hopeful implication that it can still be good. "It" being life without "the perfect course of action; the perfect partner" in general, not just Max's life after either ending. It's the suggestion not to be weighted down by the absence of something. They're both so unburdened here, more so than they ever were with each other. Not that that necessarily reflects the narrative reality, it's just the reality of the art piece for me.

Which is part of what I mean. There's always for most of everybody this subliminal vague sense of longing for something and an associated regret. The idea of what could be, or specifically what you could be or another person for you. So even in never having met, that suggestion still applies. Precisely because they will then never be "Max and Chloe" and how that could feel like a loss, when it's absurd to spend your life worrying about what it is not instead of concentrating on what it is.
I also think the notion of a predestined soulmate "out there" is BS. But the possibility of growing into something like that with somebody or maybe even having missed an opportunity to do so already is always present, and generally it seems to be something people are weighted down by.

I think they are both happy when they are together. That doesn't prevent them being happy apart, but there's a sort of innate sadness in thinking about it. If there's a chance for the two of them to live and be together, it just... feels right. Why even think about the 'what if's?I grew up with my best friend, so much of my personality and sense of humor is the way it is thanks to her. We're older now and rarely talk, she's engaged to a guy I've never even met. Yes that sense of loss is there underneath everything. What could they actually do with Max and Chloe though? The way their story is resolved is by no means good but it doesn't feel like there's much left that can be done with them. Assuming they go with a post-bae ending the search for Rachel and the Dark Room conspiracy have been resolved and there's the lingering possibility that most or all of the supporting cast got killed off.
Having them stumble across another mystery in Portland or some other town would feel off considering Jefferson's crimes had an impact on the personal lives of the duo (Rachel and potentially Kate's deaths). Without that kind of connection any overarching plot could end up feeling forced for the sake of continuing their adventures.
Plus there's the problem of Max's powers. If she still has them and uses them then we'd inevitably get stuck with yet another disaster wrecking a town. Unless of course they pulled some major retcons on how Max's power works.
I suppose they could always go without an overarching mystery and focus on the slice-of-life. But honestly I don't think that would be appealing enough to take up an entire season. It would probably feel pretty lonely as well if it was only the two of them and none of the other supporting characters.

It won't have a lot of choices, but it will give more closure to both endings.
Have the episode start with a recap of the final choice of saving Chloe or Arcadia Bay. Then show what happens afterwards.
If Chloe dies then show Max trying to move on, talking to people around Blackwell, having her friends comfort her, talking to Joyce and David, seeing her parents, etc. Show her grow up into a photographer who has an affinity with the color blue in her pieces.
If you save Chloe then show what happens to them. Going to Seattle, meeting Max's parents, Chloe comforting Max when she has nightmares (and vice versa), watch them be joyous/ grieve when they learn who lived and died, reuniting with Joyce and David (If they lived) Show the both of them mature and find their place in life: Max still becoming a photographer and Chloe finishing school and having prospects to be something.

Another, better, alternative would be to try to not make the endings suck. Perhaps add the hospital ending that numerous people discussed, wrote out, etc. where Max either dies (I honestly think that would be just as bad) or manages to save both Arcadia Bay and Chloe.
The point is: there's potential to add to the story, or alter its conclusion and Dontnod shouldn't write off every suggestion to do so when people are willing to pay for it. As well as when the story deserves more.

A prequel where we play as Rachel would be cool. Some anon many threads ago made some good arguments about her having the same power as Max, being the spirit doe, etc. It would give them a proper chance to delve into the subplots that were dropped (Prescotts and the storm, Native American stuff, etc.), and perhaps show that the timeline of season 1 was only one of the possible outcomes to the way you play it.
IDK, they could definitely go deeper into this story. I'm not senile enough to throw out more time in this universe just because it might not be as good as we hoped S1 would be. They clearly had more they wanted to add but ran out of time and budget, a second season that adds to the story and allows us to alter the first would be good in my books.

I'm not quite sure I want to know more about Rachel. I think it's interesting how they made a character, who has no spoken words or that we never actually see, that is so divisive.
All we know about Rachel for certain is that she slept with some people and that Chloe loved her. That's it. And yet she's such a massive part of the story.
I'm all for going into explaining the Prescotts, the Storm, and the other stuff you mentioned. But I think leaving Rachel ambiguous is good. I've never seen such an influential character left so unknown before, and I think it's a neat element to leave it unsaid on who she really was.
Plus either way it will just make me feel worse for Chloe. If she turned out to be a truly loving person then that means Chloe lost the one person that actually showed she cared. and if she was a bitch then Chloe is once again lied to, used, and abandoned.
That may just be me as a minority, maybe a lot of people want to play as Rachel and see who she was.

Besides demystifying Rachel's character another problem I see is that prequels often run the risk of feeling like too much of a re-tread of the original work. Really it's unlikely that we'd actually learn much new stuff considering that Rachel had practically nothing to do with the Prescotts and ended up dead once she was taken to the Dark Room.

It's pretty much canon that Rachel was a lying bitch. I mean, people keep making excuses for her about how she didn't want to hurt Chloe yadda yadda, but bottom line is, she cheated on Frank with Jefferson and she didn't tell Chloe about either of them. That makes her on objectively shitty person, regardless of what reasons she made up in her mind as to why it's better this way.

I honestly can't remember very well since I haven't touched Episode 5 in weeks but I thought Jefferson's dialogue suggested that he took advantage of her desire to be a model, not that they outright had sex. But even if they did it still could have taken place after Rachel and Frank had that falling-out mentioned in Episode 3's letter.

I remember how DONTNOD said that nearly everyone was grey, in that they were not entirely good or evil. I think Rachel is the best example.
She did a lot of fucked up stuff, no doubt about that: Lying to Chloe, lying to Frank, sleeping with Jefferson and trying to use him to get famous, etc.
But at the same time she also did good things: It's pretty much stated that she saved Chloe's life, she got along with nearly everyone in Blackwell and had time for people like Samuel and Daniel.
She seemed, to me, like like was definitely selfish but at the same time she went out of her way, more than others did, to befriend people others were not. And even if her reasons for doing that were selfish, like trying to be universally loved, her actions still ended up helping those people for a time.

That anon above did mention the spirit doe thing. Maybe if her death took place midway through the game and then the second half was spent seeing (and influencing) the events before, during and after the main game from the perspective of Rachel's ghost then that could be interesting.
Personally though I'd be more interested to see if they could do something that takes place afterwards for the sake of character progression. Could something like an episode based around Nathan serving his prison sentence be interesting?

The only problem is that doing something new would finalize one ending over another. Unless there was some retcon where Max changed more things, or there was two paths for the episode.
For example, in one ending Nathan is dead because Jefferson killed him, in the other Nathan ends up in prison because he's arrested for Chloe's murder which eventually leads to Rachel, the Dark Room, etc. being discovered.
I think they could make something and hopefully not mess it up. I still have some faith in Dontnod but I will definitely have more reserved and realistic expectations of what comes next.

I don't think she was being melodramatic. I could definitely see Chloe getting to a point where she thought ending everything was the best course of action. it falls in line with her impulsiveness, letting her emotions overwhelm her at times, and just her general problems with abandonment/ loss.
Then again, I don't believe we ever got info on when her and Rachel actually met. But I believe it was probably a year, or two, after Max left.

Mass Effect 2 could end with Shepard dying, making one major ending factor more canon than the other. Seems that most of the vocal community has shifted towards bae ending now that people have had time to think about it, and those that don't seem perfectly content with the closure to the story with that one despite it making them terrible people and it being impossible for that ending to take place in the first place.
But I digress. I think the flak would clear very quickly if they chose to continue the story after the events of the bae ending, and in fact I think it would be even better if they allowed you to import the save file with the bay ending where Max is so emotionally stricken that she goes back and saves Chloe anyways (as we know she'd do outside player control).
No modern game studio--especially a tiny one like DONTNOD--would put their artistic integrity ahead of creating more content for their story and in turn making more money and getting their name out there.

I honestly have zero interest in playing a sequel to this. Both the endings are just too shit, and too miles away from each other. You either get the supporting cast but no Chloe, or you just get stuck with Dumb and Dumber again with absolutely nothing else carrying over from the original game - except maybe Warren surviving the storm and tracking you down terminator style and the story is you have to escape going ape, I might play that.
