I've had an idea for a while that they could ratchet up the tension in dr3 by introducing non-lethal punishments for lesser crimes in the story.
For example, someone refuses to participate in the trial debate and doesn't speak at all throughout the trial, so they are punished by some horribly thematically appropriate punishment that cuts out their tongue.

Hoping that somehow they use backups to revive the others with their Ultimate Despair memories and NWP memories merged together. It's implied it happened to Izuru and the others, so it probably will work from the outside as well. This is where Soda's mechanical expertise, and Izuru's Ultimate Ultimate skills come into play.

Well, Chihiro is basically a Makoto+1, not that it makes him special, but he alone (unless you count Monokuma's threat as help) managed to pull himself from despair without anyone to help him.
Additionally his children are responsible for making the Ultimate Hopes turn into Ultimate Hopes.
AEgo second sacrifice made Naegi to untake the bullet for the team, allowing him to turn into Ultimate Hope.

UHope to me is like UDespair, a state of being, having overcome their past selfes and turn into better persons, Naegi and Hajime were able to turn in UHopes, i just gave Chihiro a honorable mention because just like Junko he start getting really awesome once he is beyond the grave.

I didn't hate Chiaki (or Chihiro), but going into DR2 I was kinda excited to have a game without Kyoko holding your hand the entire time. Still Chiaki wasn't that bad; tbfh she was 3rd most capable after Hajime and Nagito. In DR1 Kyoko and Makoto are miles ahead of Byakuya.

Chiaki gimmick seems kinda disnessary, the characters in DR2 appear to be smarter and than their DR1 counterparts, if they all really tried like Nagito wanted, they could solve the cases without Chiaki, but again, the characters are dumbed down so that the plot relevant charaters can do their actions.
While Kirigiri was purely a plot related character and thus was needed, because Makoto didn felt like investing the plot,a type of thought that fits Kyoko better, the DR2 cast seemed to be competent enough to pull their own weight, i feel like Chiaki pulling a Kirigiri kinda weighted down the experience.
I am not saying Kirigiri or Chiaki were bad characters, but the cases of DR1 is just Makoto, Kiri and Togami investigating while shaking everyone like a salt shaker for clues, and it was kinda shitty of writers to make another power trio.
Its like DBZ, anyone who isnt Goku or Vegeta can only watch the fight, if they passed the investigator torch for the characters, it would have been fine, but it was Hajime, Chiaki and Nagito doing the investigation, while everyone either reacted or gave some minor clue about it.
Its not that bad, but its not great, its just okay, since we didn have an actual detective, it would have been nice to see some character performing a bigger role in the investigation.
