Has anyone figured out how to effectively use trains in their city yet?

I'd use intra-city trains for tile to tile transport, maximum 1 station per tile with loops at the end. Keep intra-city trains on their own tracks if you can, to prevent jamming inter-city passenger and cargo lines. The game unlocks the transport options in the wrong order in my opinion. Passenger trains are only necessary in a fully-unlocked map whereas metro can be vital for shuttling passengers early on.

what kind of roads are the bus lines on?
if it's 2 or 3 lanes each direction, then you shouldn't have an issue with buses stopping frequently.

Generally I put them on 6-lane avenues, maybe it's the spacing. They always just end up seeming to hold up the rest of the proper traffic, though. I thought it was better to route buses away from the main roads?

if you have long stretches of main road you might want to use a metro to move people up and down it.
Use buses to take people to the sides of the main streets in smaller loops

This is the layout and the congestion after deleting all the buses, my metro seems to see good use, it has a clockwise and anticlockwise route inside a loop.

I would say to trash the whole thing and start over. Have that cross road that's going into the roudabout just be a straight road flying over the main ave. then construct a trumpet (see pic). Connect additional ramps in and out to that cross road if you have to, but I think maybe route that traffic elsewhere. My autism is tingling.But not enough to draw a picture.

Found the problem. The trucks created by Shroomblaze are tagged as "industry", not a specific type. So the game is seeing them as vans instead.

I really like these, post more as you make them. I only started playing AOE2 again recently so I haven't had time to make purposefully pretty scenery yet, but I always liked the screenshots people made of immersive medieval villages and want to start making that kind of stuff of my own soon. I tried to do something kind of aesthetic with that Gothic village posted above when I realized I started by the ocean.
