My parents are getting divorce as well, they "announced" last month, which seriously wasn't a big thing. The problem is, the announcement was a big fight they had and now my mother keeps trying to create drama and is just being a pain in the ass.

Well it's lung cancer, he's been smoking like a chimney for close to 20 years now, ever since high school. So probably bad, doc's gotta run tests to see how far along it is. Brother 2 drops out of contact for months at a time and generally turns up unannounced, it's just Russian winter is coming and that's the last place we knew where he was, so hopefully he either has somewhere to stay or gets his ass deported. He's gonna have some nasty surprises waiting when he gets back with everything that's happened.
Military, sure. It wasn't my first choice, I've been a total NEET for close to a year with no job prospects, but I've done my research and have a good idea of what mos's I would like to get and what to fight for. With my parent's splitting up it seemed like a good time to bite the bullet and go. I want to get those skills, serve the country, that sort of thing.My friend is totally being forced into it, it's either that, or bum on couches/the street when they're parents finally boot them out. No skills, no future, but certainly doesn't want to go. Any idea how to make them more eager, or want to go, at all?

I don't know him, it's very hard to give just general tips. I can say for myself, though, that I would never be okay into going to the military. I'm not into military stuffserving country, "protecting" people, learning military stuff is just a lot of useless crap for me, I don't think discipline has much value outside controlling your own will better (which means that when enforced by others just makes me pissed) and I don't think I would adjust to doing legwork all day and wake up at 5 AM every day, never was a physical guy, also always too thin.
You can say to him to keep his mind open, that it can be better than what he thinks, that at least he's doing something and when he starts he'll enjoy it more, that a lot of people start as he's doing and after some time in, start to like it more, I don't know.
