I get this feeling that having decided on a 32 team VGL, for the sake of justifying that decision you guys just decided to delay until after the signups so a 40 team VGL would really be impossible, since cockblocking the signups would be the easiest way to minimise the number of teams, and on top of that you could easily understate the number of interested teams because of that.

I mean, the MegaVGL was always an idea that was suggested by the fans and was always just a consideration. We have been discussing the idea for days too, but it just can't happen due to the wonky scheduling and the fact that our streamers will not be available for every possible day/hour. Look at it this way, the last 2 leagues took the entire 2 weeks to fill up the league's positions, so we were not really prepared for expanding further.
The Council will be chalking this up as a lesson learned rather than a mistake we'd like to hide behind us. VGL6 is already being considered as a league with a mega format, but I can't see us going further than 40 teams, you'll just have to sign up as soon as word of them going up goes out.

VGL3 had 24 slots and VGL4 had 32 slots, and both took 2 weeks to fill up. A possible 40 for VGL5 wasn't too hard to foresee desu.
In fact 40 might not even be enough for VGL6; I'm thinking maybe 48. At the very least, 40 definitely won't be enough for VGL7.

I don't know whether you've noticed it yet, but first come first served is not going to be sustainable in the long run as the demand picks up, since you're just going to see the same autists cockblocking the rest every single time. It's not noticeable now but as more generals get interested it'll be a definite issue, considering how many generals /vg/ has.
Also assuming the streamers are willing to stream for up to 4 weeks at a stretch, 48 teams is manageable in 4 weeks.

We are almost certainly never going to do a tournament that has more than 40 teams participating. 40 is already quite a lot, 9 matches per day over 3 weekends, plus the 16 total in the KO weekend. There's a reason that's called a Mega format.
Not everybody that signs up for an event can always be accepted and fit into it when there are known limitations, and there are a lot of limitations for this particular VGL. Yes, technically it is possible to fit all those matches into the time we have, but the two ways of doing it aren't appealing or practical to anybody involved.
We have started discussing alternative methods for picking accepted teams in future VGLs, though, since that is a legit issue, where certain managers and teams have a big advantage over others in being able to hear about VGL signups opening and are able to sign up immediately to secure their spot every single time. If more and more generals do start getting interested, it's not fair to them to have to fight over the last 10-20 spots.
VGL6 will definitely be considered for Mega status, as we'll all have way more time to plan for it and have it happen, but right now it's really just not feasible. Sincere apologies to people and generals who wanted to sign up but were too late, nobody wants to turn away actual interest, I certainly don't because that's a large portion of doing this to me, but you just have to accept the situation you have sometimes.
