Yes it's predetermined when you create your save file. That means some of us only need 1 pink coin to get a SRank yokai, while some of you will need 10 thousand pink coins to get the S rank, and there's nothing you can do about it and no amount of save scumming or letting time pass or progressing the story will change that number. Do all the quests you can, cause why not. You definitely should take the time to explore the Yo-kai World if you haven't already. And yeah, Eternal Hell (whatever they're calling it in english, haven't made it there yet myself on my ENG game) is definitely worth the time to complete. You could also try to collect more Yo-kai but as a far warning it doesn't transfer forward to YW2 so you'll have to collect them all over again if that's your goal.
(also, feel free to ask anything, I've played YW1, YW2 (Honke), and Busters (White Dog) in Japanese. Memory might be a bit fuzzy though)

You've got to complete the first legend page. I think Happierre is the last one I got for that in JP and it was a pain in the butt. About half of the yo-kai you need for shogunyan the game hands you as part of the story, so I think only Leadoni, Happierre, Castellius III, and Mochisimo you have to go out of your way for (and if I recall correctly, you need mochisimo for something anyway... or maybe that was YW2)

The legend pages are just at the very end (you can hit left to go from the first page to the last page). If the seal is lit up, you've unlocked it. If it has nothing in it or just the tribe icon, you haven't. Also, if it has the tribe icon in it, the top screen will tell you which yokai you need for that seal. Only shogunyan's seals are all listed out for you at the start, the rest you have to encounter the yokai first. (of course you can always just look it up too)

You can't just run straight to him, you may have to run to where he's going to intervention the path. It's not easy, but it's possible. His favorite food is Hamburgers. He also drops his evolution item should you choose to grind on him. Good luck.

the rank restriction is only for sensing yokai in the field and getting past rank doors. You can get S rank yokai from the crank-a-kai but you just have to get lucky. And you can't savescum it as the each coin has a specific pool for your save.
So you might have a save that gives the S rank from the first coin, or you might have a save that gives it from your 50th.

He gets stronger the furthur in the story you get. If you want to get him I suggest you start grinding when you get 1 or 2 decent healers, then jaywalk to hell until you get him (also preferably after you unlock the meat shop, he likes meat). Do NOT let him kill any of your demons, because once he kills one and gets the power up buff, things kind of only gets downhill from there as that buff stacks for every kill he makes. He is totally worth it though, I used him for ages until way past post game when I start replacing my team with hard to get S ranks.

Well it does have a higher rank than Pinkiepoo. If it can heal, it might be handy to keep around for bosses, but keep away if you're trying to befriend yo-kai.
Is there any place to re-nickname yo-kai you've recruited? I couldn't think of anything at the time, so I've just been not naming them, and I've been thinking up names for a bit.

How do I get a Flengu? And what are these rares people keep mentioning? I know you can get them from the machine, but could you get them randomly? No one has answers online and it seems you guys are the best at helping.
