no, you're pretty safe, beyond the usual gate camps and shit
as long as you can cloak in under a second after jumping through to the other side of the gate, you're good
i mean, the worst you'll have is maybe an instalock scrambler trying to camp the gates, but if you only show up for less than a second, you're fine
if you're fairly new-ish to cloakies, remember that the cloaking/de-cloaking animation is misleading. it looks like it takes a couple of seconds, but you're actually visible on dscan and overview the instant you start decloaking, so the moment your ship moves, hit that cloak again

my steps are usually as follows
land
dscan 360 max
dscan 30 at nearest planet/moon
if clear, 100km
the instant i uncloak, launch probes, then cloak up again while warping (you can technically just not cloak while warp if you want to reload your probe launcher)
while you're still in warp, probe scanner, and send 'em out far from the system (at least 15AU if you don't want your probes showing up on other dscan)
you should be able to do this before you land from your warp to the planet/moon/whatever
if all goes well, you only show up for at most a second, and your probes show up for maybe 2 seconds

get your scanning skills up and practice scanning things down quickly
remember that for most Data/Relic sites, they're located within 3AU of planets/moons/sun/etc. use that knowledge to focus your probes quickly. once you manage to scan something to 100%

yeah, it's pretty fun, but the minigame does get kind boring after a while, honestly
it's something that everyone with cloaking v at least try a couple of times, it if weren't that stupidly long training time, i'd recommend it to everyone
there are some good guides online, most are outdated when it comes to specifics, but the general gist of always keep local open, dscan properly, and stay on your toes is standard
i'm gonna get shit for it, but i started out by reading guide on /r/eve over on reddit to get the general idea, and the rest of the shit i learned through experience
oh, and be sure to invest in some good fits if you wanna get serious, the good shit is usually locked up in Sleeper caches, you can make like 20m easy with a single cache, but you need a scan strength of over 110 to most of those

but no, the idea is that you want to control various beacons around a system to give control to your faction, takes like 5-20 minutes or so to cap a beacon (they're more commonly called plexes, short for complexes) and they come with a rat that guards the beacon

Feels really good not being part of an alliance or a big corporation. Me, I know people in my corp for almost 9 years, ever since I played. Met eachother IRL too and went on various trips. I'm a lucky guy. Had I joined a different corp I would have never met them and I would have turned just as bitter and powerhungry and deceptive as the people you speak about.
Even at fanfest I met some hostile people, mittani getting dickriders from left and right, alliances hooping up with eacother around areas, it wasn't a pretty sight. eveamsterdam was fun though, but a little too drunk for me.
