We could assume that they had a chance meeting in Seattle but I doubt William's survival would alter where Max went to school or do much for her social standing. To be fair, the Bay ending was fairly tear-jerking. I picked it in my second playthrough out of curiosity, and the combination of Spanish Sahara and the photographies changing just hit me right in the feels.

Not that I don't agree about the bay ending being full of shit but the problems that post describes apply to the bae ending as well.
It still presents the tornado as being canonically caused by Max and that Chloe's death would somehow avert it. Nearly everything the player has worked for besides Chloe's survival is undone by the town's destruction and the deaths of the inhabitants. And yes it clearly was the intention of the writers that they be dead, otherwise it would never be a choice to begin with.
Any supposed message about "accepting consequences is a load of bullshit. If that were really the case Max would have stopped using her photo ability the moment Warren explained how storm was caused. Her only concern is Chloe, it has nothing to do with Max having an epiphany.
Why can't we just pretend Polarized never happened? Even if it were longer and less vague the bae ending would still be a load of wank.

I didn't cry when it happened so much as I stared at the screen in silence, mouth agape in disbelief. For the next two days I woke up feeling sick to my stomach.

I have to admit, the alterations to how the bathroom scene played out (the long wait for Nathan to enter, not being able to see what was happening, etc) fucking wrecked me, and seeing Nathan just trapped freaking out trying multiple times to revive her.
But it didn't wreck me in a 'beautiful tragedy' way (and boy am I a sucker for tragedy), it wrecked me in a real life "this is sick and awful and wrong and unfair, let me fucking DO SOMETHING" kind of way and a raging "this is really really shitty storytelling and doesn't make a lick of sense, someone bomb Dontnod" kind of way.
With more logic put into it and more care taken for the subplots and Nathan's role in everything, and all of Arcadia Bay's role in everything, it could have actually been really powerfully executed. The fact that it missed the mark on the logic side of it, rendering it nothing more than unbelievable emotional manipulation, just makes it so much more aggravating.
The cemetery scene was just shoddy as fuck though, nothing to like at all.
