Why did the Rutile Ruby tell you to keep and load the .code file? All it does is prevent the game from booting and/or reboot homebrew. Sorry if I sound retarded as fuck, but I'm just honestly curious as to what it actually does and why does it stop the game from loading (on my 10.1 New 3DS anyway).

It's just the romfs. I went through the process of merging my Omega Ruby with the files in Rutile, so this is just plug and play. You need the updated Hans, since I didn't strip the romfs.

>>
It seems that some of the most competent people in the scene are moralfags, so it's got me thinking, what does it take to do this stuff? Smea is pretty young, only a few years older than me. I don't know what he learned growing up, but shouldn't I be able to learn how to do some of this and try to find a kernel exploit for us? What sort of knowledge is needed? I'm a NEET so I've got time to learn this shit most likely. I don't have any real programming knowledge, but I consider myself a GNU/Linux power user. I'm sure I could figure stuff out.

>>
>>121350671
9.9 and up is in a bit of a bind.

browserhax no longer works on 9.9 and newer, tubehax was patched even longer ago. You had to have setup ironhax or oot3dhax in the past to get homebrew on a system that new now.

oot3dshax requires homebrew to setup the first time and ironfall got patched so yeah your only option is cubic ninja unless you have a friend on older firmware and who owns oot3d.

There's one more option, though. You could wait. Kickass homebrew makes some quick progress these days. I think almost every day Smea tweets about new progress recently.
>>
I'm going deer hunting soon. What 3DS games should I install on my CFW before leaving?

I got Triforce Heroes and Etrian Mystery Dungeon so far. Also could play some GBA ROMs probably. Speaking of GBA ROMs, do they run better on CFW or a DSTWO? I've got both at my disposal.

>>121352082
I'm literally asking what stuff I should learn. I didn't mean to imply any of this was short-term.
>>
>>121350372
He's been learning programming and working with ARM assembly for a good 6-7 years, at least. You'll be looking at needing at least a few years of degree-level computer science and crypto knowledge, plus probably another half a year at least of reading up on and learning about the 3DS itself, then another on top for learning how to effectively use ROP. If you're serious about making any kind of effort, don't shoot yourself in the foot by starting with an embedded system, start with Linux, regular programming, learn how CPUs and memory really work and how to low level manipulate them. Then probably move onto a system that's already pretty open and well documented, like the PSP, much easier to exploit.

>>

MIPS ASM is fairly simple and will help you have an understanding of ASM languages in general and how CPU and memory work

start with this before going with ARM or x86
>>
i have followed a guide from gbatemp and managed to:
-install rxtools
-downgrade mset
-install an hack that let me do coldboot directly in emunand

about the last one, i simply followed the guide but have not understand how i get there. iirc i used browserhax (?) wich created a stuff everytime i started the browser which if i click it (top left) it make me go to a menu (homebrew channel i guess?). after that i installed themehax (no idea what is that) and used a stuff to make coldboot works.

now, almost (i said almost because sometimes it frozen) everytime i start the 3ds it go to emunand (wich is kinda cool).
but what if i want to update some hacks, such as browserhax or themehax or rxtools?

as long as you don't update that thing you'll be perfectly fine

Trust me, it is. Some people suggest loading up 4-5 content heavy tabs, then shutting your Wii U down normally. Then, power the Wii U on, open the browser, and after those 4-5 tabs have loaded, open another tab and try to load the kexploit URL.

on 9.2 you can use browserhax and then install themehax for a permanent exploit
>>
>>121361864
>And Hans seems to require homebrew access to being with
That's what browserhax and themehax are for. You're on 9.4, so you can still use browserhax just fine. And once you get homebrew loaded, you can use the included eShop spoofer to download any game updates you need.
>>

Ah, thank you. Installation looks pretty simple if not tedious. Looks like all I'll need is an SD card reader. Those seem pretty cheap.
>>
>>121362950
Yeah, that's all you need. Browserhax is a bit unreliable though, so the recommended path is to load that once and just use it to install themehax/menuhax instead, which loads the homebrew menu as soon as you boot the console and with almost 100% reliability.

I just softmodded my vWii, I have a HDD with a partition for Wii games that I used with WBFS Manager long ago.
Now, how do I play GC backups on this? I see various options for MIOS, Nintendont and maybe two other ways to play GC backups but:
a) Where do I put them? Can they be placed inside the WBFS partition?
b) Do I have to tamper with the settings? How do I use my GC saves, if I already got them from my Memory Cards?
>>
>>121366963
Can't help you on the specifics, but Nintendont is the way to go. Unless things have changed very recently, it's the only one that actually works under vWii, which is the reason it was developed in the first place.
>>
>>121347572
did you unlink your nand´s ?
if not congratulations, throw your handheld in the trash.
>>
>>121366963
>MIOS
You can't do that on a WiiU. Use Nintendont.

>Where do I put them?
"games" folder of your SD card.
Create a folder in the "games" folder, name that folder with the name of the game
It should look like this:
games/Name of your game/game.iso (don't change the name of the iso, it needs to be like this. you recognize which game it is by the folder name)

>How do I use my GC saves, if I already got them from my Memory Cards?
You have something to backup them. A Wii that can run homebrew would work. Nintendont can save to the SD card.

>Do I have to tamper with the settings?
Probably not much, unless you want to do something specific I guess.
>>
>>121367240
*You have to use something
It can't be done on a WiiU (or a Wii Family, or a Wii Mini) because they don't have a GC memory cards port.
>>
>>121366963
Use Nintendont. Just use Wii Backup Manager to transfer isos to your drive.

Migrate everything on your WBFS partition over to a FAT32 partition, then use GC backups with Nintendont on your FAT32 partition.

Letterbomb for wii doesn't seem to be working. Kept it in there for a few days and the mail was never sent.

Did I extract this into the SD card wrong?

Is 'system volume information' in conflict with it?

On the late days of the Wii I ignored Dios Mios because it sounded like too much trouble.

>>121367392
I started using it as early as 2010, if not earlier. I knew things got better and you could actually use isos but I never got around passing all the games to my PC, formatting the USB drive and then back in.

Yeah I can launch rxTools from the hbl just fine. What are the actual "tools" in rxTools? I would suppose the xorpad generator is one of these tools? From what I've seen so far after rxTools, it's just a normal firmware... is there some sort of mode I have to boot into?

As for dumping xorpads, I'm having some trouble finding a guide specific for us N3DS guys, using this one currently: https://github.com/citra-emu/citra/wiki/Dumping-Game-Cartridges

Can rxTools dump xorpads itself? or do I have to install a bunch of things (decrypt9 etc)

Hold L (or R, I forget) while rxTools is booting and it'll give you access to the tools. Generating xorpads is one of them..
You need an ncchinfo.bin on your 3DS SD card from .3ds files whose xorpads you want, you can generate one with this

Don't update to 9.2.
You need to update to 4.1-4.5, and get a DS flashcart that works on that firmware.
>>
>>121394704
you don't need a ds flashcart these days, but yeah, certainly don't update to 9.x with a cart or you'll end up with no browser and no ds profile exploit, making it unmoddable

>>
>>121395639

There is only one way, because you don't have the web browser which is critical to all other methods.
You need a DS flashcart for the DS profile exploit. Then you can run whatever CFW you want.
>>
>>121396031
Oh right. That's great, thank you very much.

So uh, what DS flashcart would you recommend and where from?

I'm based in the UK if that makes any difference.
