HA isn't a proto, just not available to marines like the HC is despite them (in real life) being the same thing. Eugen didn't want the USMC (or NATO mixed marine) to have 2 cards of heavies to every other marine deck's 0.

The navy planes are pretty terrible compared to the USAF, you lose out on your only good ASFs and bombers by specializing into marine. NORAD moto still keeps those planes and only really loses out on the Hornets (while keeping the longbow as well) so for the marine deck the air tab isn't really much of an advantage,

>>

>sometimes its really really hard to stand how absolute shit it is though
In what way? The community? Game engine?
>>
>>120971015
mainly the engine, I don't mind the graphics but every little thing about it is just slightly off or broken, from the map taking 3 seconds to open, to the ridiculous deviation system (and yes I understand why they had to do it)

playing insurgency just really highlights how terrible the gunplay is in PR, compared to what it could be

not only that but often you can just get into a bad squad that either disintegrates under poor leadership, or gets wiped and never really comes back into the game, or just spends the entire round marching round the map never actually doing anything

when things go right its really good, an amazing unique experience
but its overshadowed by the issues to me
>>
>>120971340

the game mind you, not the gamemode in PR

>>120971602
Well, that blows.
>>
>>120971340
Yeah the gunplay is about as fine as it can get on the engine really.

Bad squads are also a problem, I find that I can lose a round but have fun with a good squad almost every time. Don't often do the latter just travelling the map though.

I honestly wish that I could get some sort of excitement for Squad but I don't think it will be successful, not to mention the 200 player server tests were easily the best experiences i've ever had in PR.

Comes with the job.
Just like her, hurr hurr.
>>
>>120971340
These are some good points you make.

I love milsim games and have been playing Insurgency for months now. Just recently found Project Reality and began playing.

The little bugs and things in the engine don't bother me too much because the real payoff is the scope and features of the game itself.

Whats the deviation system you mentioned? I haven't had a chance to dig deep into the broader features yet, still learning my way around infantry roles and squad stuff.

The leadership thing is also true, and the game shines when you have a good group, but this can also swing the other way and you have control-freak basement officers who scream at people and act like they're in Delta Force. That annoys the shit out of me as I'm an Army vet and don't like listening to some whiny shit tell me how to do CQB or move in formation.

>Whats the deviation system you mentioned? I haven't had a chance to dig deep into the broader features yet, still learning my way around infantry roles and squad stuff.

I am surprised you have ever hit anything with your rifle then.
Because it is impossible to implement scope sway into BF2 engine what they did was implement invisible scope sway

basically after you move, or change from standing to prone, or sprint, or jump your gun is really inaccurate and slowly gains accuracy over a few seconds, same thing after every shot

they are adding a HUD indicator in the new update today I think
>>
>>120972005
Yeah I'm not holding my breath for Squad to succeed either.

I'm certainly hoping it succeeds, though. I think Unreal engine was a good choice.

Part of what I love about a lot of milsim games, mods, etc.. is that they prioritize the features and realism of the game instead of graphics.

As an older gamer, I'm very willing to put up with less than cutting-edge graphics for a richer gameplay and feature experience. Not very many big companies will go this route, though, and I think a lot of modern games suffer for it.
>>
>>120972332
Deviation is a feature that makes you inaccurate as fuck for 2-3 seconds after going from walk/run to standing still.
>>
>>120972773
Ah okay.

Well I've noticed that the round deviation was crazy but I just thought it was a high cone of fire, desu.

I felt it was getting more accurate after a few seconds of sighting-in. Glad I'm not going insane yet lol.

>Bad leadership
>Implying anyone ever listens to squad leaders.

Mostly why I dropped it. My group always pigeon holed me into squad lead because they were too lazy, but it never matters. Pubs, friends, no one ever fucking listens and just picks whatever kit they want before lone-wolfing and then crying for a medic while being 100m away.

I just got tired of the trash community after awhile. The teamwork is non-existant in a game that can only function with teamwork in the first place. The game is essentially unplayable 90% of the time. It gets worse whenever a patch comes out and brings in a bunch of new/returning people too.
>>

Yeah man I haven' been playing long, but once I started joining pvp servers I noticed that almost every squad had a leader that was vocal and the majority of players listened.

You may have just had some bad experiences. The community is small enough that I think most people are willing to play along and cooperate because it's really a part of what makes the game awesome.
>>
>>120976019

>>
>>120976992
It's true. The mission the server is running has to specify every custom skin that they want to use, and then they'll have to tell people in the mission description to go to download the skins separately.
>>
>>120975267
What server do you play on. Maybe German players are just really obedient or something, because on American ones people don't listen for shit, and their only desired interaction with the squad is pissing and moaning about rally point drops in situations where you very obviously cannot place once, or begging for a medic because they ran off and did something stupid. The community in PR is a complete joke. They are MOBA-tier.

Denmark and Norway are the 2 most viable 40% minors. DLC 3 did wonders by giving them 2000's equipment to fill all their old deck holes.

I'd say Denmark/Norway National is more viable than say, the Czech or Japan.

Japan really should be a 40% country, their deck is so lacking in so many ways. All they do in BD is provide the koreans a couple gap-filler units. The vast majority of a BD deck is Korean.

Then blue dragons can be bumped up to 25% bonus avail.

Only thing Czechs are missing is a respectable fighter. Norway is totally defenseless against helicopters.

Both also have dogshit for tanks (Leop 1s are nice but you'll never break through a heavily defended line with them) and helicopters.

Nasams destroy helicopters that get in range, wheeled means it can keep up with the armor. You get 6 of the things in Norway national.

Czech are missing SEAD, Tanks other than Dyna and Moderna are overpriced. Infantry tab has to rely on Grantomets against infantry. Infantry tab has no high-power launchers other than 7VR. Czech have better coverage than Norway/Denmark, but the Scandinavian units are better as a whole.

On the other hand, I took a look at Japan national and holy shit they are missing so much. Literally the worst air tab in the game.

Eugen you dun fucked up when the JASDF is worse than the Nork air force. But then again, considering how the JASDF is basically USAF-lite, I'm not surprised.

You're supposed to do that kind of thing in person. Ask the person you're buying it from if you can try it on his PC. And bring a friend.

If you live in a shithole chances are that appropriation and reselling of electronics happens rather often. Ask your IRL friends and their friends' friends. Check the local flea markets too.

CH HOTAS owner here.

Build quality is retardedly amazing. This shit won't break ever and it's easy as fuck to open it up to do maintenance if you need to. Just be sure to get the whole HOTAS set and not just the stick, as it doesn't have twist and the little throttle rotary wouldn't be as good as the throttle unit to use.

It may be old as shit but it's a proven, solid HOTAS system. Unlike the X-52 anyway.

If you got any questions, ask them, I'll be here for a few minutes.

hey everyone. Im here for DCS:World.
What is the best server to play on.
Are most of the servers on 1.5 now?
>>
>>121007259
I could manage the stick + throttle but getting the pedals would be stretching it too thin. I usually play the WW2 birds so rudder is pretty important. Does the CH pro throttle have anything to help with that?
>>
>>121008220
I heard tales of someone using the microstick as a rudder, but nothing besides that.
>>
>>121008124
Join the /fsg/ group on steam if possible.

When we assemble to play, we generally have someone host a mission or something of the sorts for the time being and someone posts on the thread. Just come into the TS from time to time to check for ops.

1.5 has quite a bit servers running already. At least I'd say it's comparable to 1.2.8

The fact the pedals are so close doesn't bother you at all? Moreover it seems that you have to put your whole feet on them in order to operate them, rather than just pushing them with your feet's tips. Which as far as I know is how WW2 aircraft pedals were used.

>>121017453
It's slow and easy, doesn't really have any depth outside of the deck building, so it's really simple to pick up for new people if you have any sort of mind for RTS games at all. Also, appearance wise it's not bad at all, though all the fancy attention to appearances is largely wasted by being zoomed out so far that you only see boxes. Also, nationalism.

It's accessible. I don't play other RTS games and I appreciate how Wargame doesn't demand Starcraft 2 levels of APM or micro. It doesn't have basebuilding either. All of this gives it an "easy to play, difficult to master" kind of vibe.

The recon/sead/aa/tanks/atgm/arty/infantry etc. dynamic works REALLY well.

It's sorta realistic, there's a lot of bullshit (maybe even too much depending on you) but isn't nowhere near as bad as something like World in Conflict. It's close enough for me and it's lovely seeing all the nicely modeled units fighting it out, it's pretty. Also nationalism.

None of those are related to the actual gameplay, which is what I disagree the most with. WiC was just rock/paper/scissors all the way. I don't care if the server has clan support if it's not fun to play.

There are two things that rustle my shit more than anything else in the gaming industry.

The first is everything revolving around Lab Zero's current situation and how a decent dev just kinda got completely shit on.

The second is Ubisoft's total raping of Sierra and Massive, and adding gratuitous insult to injury by purposefully stunting WiC's potential to kill it off, and sticking Massive on shitty CoD-clone FPS games when they are traditionally an RTS developer. Massive and Sierra were a potent as fuck combo, and I really, really fucking hate the modern consumer base of the gaming industry because of what's ultimately happened to the two companies.

Gee I'm sorry let me take the time to download the album and upload it on mega for a brief joke.

You're a special kind of dumb fuck.

Lab Zero is western, anon. None of their games even have a Japanese character in them. They have a similar art-style to anime in some respects, but that's about where the Japanese influence begins and ends. No need for throwing me in a Ural bound for Siberia.

Fixing up my USSR deck in Wargame and I'm thinking about infantry transports. Do you guys think spets or GRU should be in the BTR-90?

Remember, The Hunt for Red October was extremely well received only two years earlier. Published by the U.S. Naval Institute Press, renowned for its accuracy, praised by Ronald Reagan himself.

RSR isn't bad, but the only good parts were probably Larry Bond's doing.

Try reading Ralph Peters' Red Army which is like RSR from the opposite perspective. NATO is incredibly incompetent, falls for every single ruse, no one has critical thinking skills etc.

Stick with the middle ground "war is hell" novels like Chieftains if you want less jingoist WW3 stuff.

>>121030398
Nah just stick with art of war.
