Because it's true. I love what they did with the arts, the music, the more colorful graphics and whatnot. Though I hate that they removed the Dark Knight theme from every dark knight fact and that they removed the cartoonish damage animations with eyes popping out.

The skill system is a mess full of irrelevant skills, which a lot need to be leveled, but they level at such a retardly slow rate - like 0,2~0,3% when they need 100% to gain a level - that some are just outright useless since there's no point to their existence since you'll never level them unless you outright grind them. However, grinding such skills is a slow, painful experience compared to grinding in any other game, you have to do retarded shit like shield bash a cleric in a hole in the middle of a rainy plain while you use you slowly level your skills on her for hours.

The spell system is also shit. A clear example of quantity over quality, in the original you had 2~3 slots to equip spells, but in general they were a lot more unique and useful, and their range progressed with your Int. Heal Rain, Hasten, SlowMove, Stun, they all had their uses, even if poison was useless and Petrify was gold. They even created another two elements to bloat the thing even more with useless spells that are all the same except for the status ones that inherently makes certain elements better than others.

The remake added a fuckton of useless spells, made previously spells good, removed the AoE progression from stats for a spell tier system - while bounding the higher leveled ones to random drops in grindy as fuck dungeons that make Disgaea cry at the corner for being overtopped at its most famous feature.

The remake removed also removed elemental affinities and terrain bonuses, throwing positioning out of the window - one of the most important tactical elements from a tactical RPG.

The original had lots of issues too with how Spd was king, running around with two orbs, a chainmain and a weapon was generally better and how the further you were in the game, less MP you gained, but still it was all a simple and clean experience. It was cool to get unique gears from bosses and story battles instead of needing to redo their battles with a high level to have a chance for their drops.

They even fucked up on expanding the idea of the Hell Gate, by making most drops not even guaranteed, tied to certain level thresholds and/or giving you enchiridions that you used to craft gear that was was used for crafting even higher leveled gear - which was used to craft even higher leveled stuff. That was no real equipment progression and no uniqueness to anything you got, it's just a stepping stone for crafting the next powerful thing. And let's not get started at all the problems crafting has or the leveling system.

The whole Hell Gate quest for dragon magic and the forbidden magics also don't work as well with the "learn for good" a scroll thing.

Also they thought it was a good idea to make Deneb require 30 glass pumpkins instead of 10. Fuck whoever thought this was a good idea. Why?

I love Ogre Battle. I even love the remake, despite how much I badmouthed it.

But man, does it suck how something I looked forward for years to happen ended up being so poorly executed from a gameplay standpoint. A lot of thrown in ideas that didn't have any synergy, they removed staple elements like the elemental system, they removed tiles and weather affecting units, taking away part of the tactical side of the TRPG. Instead, they pandered to grinding fags. It has more random drops and grinding than korean MMOs, I don't know what Matsuno was smoking when they thought about all this shit, so I'd rather believe it was just executive meddling that insisted that the gameplay had to be so padded.

The only problem with original Tactics Ogre was:

1) The ridiculous power discrepancy between units of unequal levels at the beginning of the game.

2) That it took until mid-game for level ups to finally specialize characters into their respective class.

Keeping Denim as a Ninja all game and feeding him all tarots was completely wizard. Especially if you leveled up weaker party members in random battles...

This was well-written av well thouht out. So I really should try the earlier games? I fired up the gba some time ago, but didn't get very far, as I was a but sceptical when they gave me training grounds - I was afraid of having to grind a lot, and that get tedious in Luct as well. But the story and characters really make it worth it

The GBA one is kinda on the slow side, it lags like hell. But it's fun if you can get behind it.

No grinding is needed, the option is there if you need it or want to get some last minute stats to class change your units without going in a real battle with the class you didn't want.

I most definitely recommend the original TO and Ogre Battle 64, they're amazing games.

Cool. I'll check them out. While I do, and did play all sort of tactical rpgs, it's really the story and characters that drives me, and makes me really like this game. I love the dialogue, the banter is sp great.

You'll really like OB64, then. The dialogue and storytelling are pretty much on the same style, but the gameplay is different. It's RTS instead of turn based, but with a class system like the original TO.

The artstyle is pretty cool, too.

You seem well-versed in TO, is it viable in any way to use whips with Ozma? Havnt gotten any classmarks yet, so been using 1handed swords, as no other partymember is using those.

Viable? Yes.

But anything is subpar compared to dual wielding knives. Knives deal the best damage hands down because of the damage formula taking Agi AND Str in consideration, instead of only Str.

I use Ozma with whips because it's heresy to do otherwise after playing the original, but you should still know that it's not the best thing. Pretty much everything is not the best thing compared to dual wield of knives.

FFXIV had some armor from TO in their game.
Tanks got the male Terror Knight armor, ranged non-magic got a modified Lendls armor? I'm really not sure, the fusilier armor is so much more stylish.
Magic got the male Wizard armor, healers got Olivyas armor, and melee got the rogue armor

Not much, it's only for minmaxing and going around killing shit in one attack. It's the best because of how absurdly broken it is, not because other options are nonviable.

Man, i really hope Matsuno will get away from that failed Kickstarter project asap so he can go back writing again politcs-filled TRPGs. I mean, i'm having fun with Disgaea, but i need a new game that captures the elegant and serious spirit of Tactics Ogre or the Ivalice games.

I wouldn't mind it so much if the plot wasn't so shit now. Not that Fire Emblem was well know for its plots, but at least Jugdral and Tellius managed to have some pretty believable world building and political intrigues going on.

Now it looks like an anime separated in episodes, they even removed the map narrations that were used to describe the war events.
