Basically, if you start the game knowing 100000% that you want to do an STR melee only character, you're better off going Warrior, because the warrior class has really low points in things you don't need like Faith.

So if you go deprived instead even though you start at soul level 1 you'll never be able to take away those 7 or however many extra points it has locked into faith that warrior doesn't have, which ends up costing you like 20k souls per point around level 60 to play catch up to the warrior, even though warrior started at level 9 or so.

For example luck is only useful for certain specialized builds, so starting with 10 in that is too high for someone who does not intend to make a bleed build or something.
The knight on the other hand starts with like 6 luck so he is better for a melee build.

In general if you have a build in mind one of the other starters is better.

Deprived has too many wasted points. 10 in every stat. Knight has 7 in luck for example.

Deprived is better than Mercenary, Herald, Thief, Assassin, Sorcerer and Cleric in most end level builds.

Deprived is absolutely the strongest choice for low level PvP.
